Smoke Out Tail Lights

Anybody have any idea whether smoke out tail lights are legal in Georgia?

I checked the GA Code for any red flags, but it's sometimes so very vague.

How about this, does anyone in GA have them and have they had any problems with the police?

Thanks a bunch! kp

Smoked-Out anything is usually illegal. But, what's the fun in being "legal" anyways.

I don't knw GA law specifically. But usually the law says your car needs to reflect red when seen from the rear at XX feet. Going "blacked" out may be too dark, but tinted/darkened is probably legal. Saying that I run clear tails without any red reflectors and have for over a year. I have never had a single problem with the popo. In spite of having ones drive right behind me many times.

Your milage may vary......

legal is the law here on NAM... the question, rather, is how tinted is allowable by law in practice...

Here in California, two police officers will decide two different dterminations on the same criteria. It's very subjective.

If ya get pulled over be nice about it and maybe you'll just get a fix-it ticket! Just 2 cents. Also they might not be able to pull you over for just the smoked tail lights and the Officer has to have some other sort of reason for pulling you over (Ex. - Speeding) Not exactly sure how it works in GA.

Good Luck and Happy Motoring!

Matt

Edit:

As to where SouthernMINI got 'em. Outmotoring has them. Not sure if thats where SouthernMINI got 'em.

Heres the link:

I'm sure some other places have 'em so look around first.

Moss Mini also has the Side Markers too. But they call 'em Black Crystal.

I am in Texas and have them on my JB MCS. I am pretty sure they are illegal here, but I have not had any problems.

I did get them from Out Motoring! They were so easy to put on.
I have had them on my MINI for about 8 months and have never had a problem. They really go with the Red and Black theme. I'm not too worried about the tail lights, I am more worried about my windsheild cause I tinted that too.

Yep. Pretty awesome. I checked out your gallery. You're after my husband's heart with those night pics of the capital.

It's nice to hear you haven't had any troubles with the law in Austin. We're looking to get back soon. My hubby's from Georgetown, I'm from Dallas, but my parents are in San Marcos now.

Just ordered from Moss. CAN'T WAIT!

Just for the legal issues... I believe if you leave your 3rd brake light red you should be ok, because that will always show and reflect red which I think is what they want for legality. My tails have been tinted for quite some time and I have been pulled over with them on and had no trouble at all. Hope that helps.

Why didn't you tint the whole light though? I know that is the backup light, but still....

That's seems like a pretty good deal considering how it turned out . I am assuming you had to go without the tail lights for a few days though, correct?

Glad to see he's still in business
