I customed sprayed the interior of the lights myself. The spraying part is quite easy and can be done yourself. Search on here for a thread about tinting. I posted a link with a how-to.

mine...although i decided to stick with stock lights for now. The tint was too aggressive for me

Film

I've got the Moss Mini film and love them. A couple of us put them on at our last mod party. They took about 30 minutes to install and look great.

I was wanting to do this also...is there any advantage of film over spray, or vise versa? Film can be removed...but I'm guessing the spray cannot?

I have been looking into this myself as well. I have a Dark Silver MCS and I think the film is too dark for me. I have talked to Jon at http://www.tintedtails.com/ and he wants $75 to do both tail lights. If you look in the gallery on his site, there is a DS MCS with "medium tint" and it looks to dark for my taste. I like the medium-light tint on his site, so I might go with that.

Hey that's my car!! Yea I paid the $75 plus $12 or $15 for shipping. I did it about 7 months ago. It's actually not that dark. When the sun is shining directly at it, you can still see the orange and red lens on the inside of the housing. Even the chrome bezel around the red lens. But at all other times it is perfect. During the daytime the visibility of the lights are at around 40% which is still pretty good. At night, it's at about 80% which there is virtually no difference from stock, except that it's easier on the viewer's eyes. I traded cars with my freind to check it out for myself.

Thanks for the extra details. Part of my problem in making up my mind is that everything looks so different in person than it does on our computers. Now you have me thinking about the medium grade tint. Hmmm....

John does excellent work. I have seen it in person on a an .:R32 and it is great. I am sending him my stock tails soon. I just have to replace my tires first

I am in the process of completely blacking out my car so I am going medium dark on the tails, sidemarkers and wheel flare reflectors. I am keeping the 3rd brake light red though so I will be DOT/AZ legal.

Matthew, when am I gonna see (and hear) your ride? You're here in Tucson and I still haven't seen it!

Joel,
I am in Southern California until the middle of August. I am installing some WMS camber plates, PSS9's, rear swaybar, end links, and control arms in a couple of weeks and hopefully getting the new muffler for the WMS exhaust soon. We can meet up anytime after August 13, I really want to check out the WMS short shifter you are running. Enjoy the heat, see ya in a month.

Polizei - I didn't install them personally. John Monk and another guy installed them at our last MiniCC mod party. I had already seen the work he did on his ride and a 2nd one at the mod party that day. He offered and I had no real desire to "learn a new skill" at my first mod party. The 2nd person is really only there to hold the hair dryer. One person could manage by themselves. It goes on like tint. Soap and water spray then hair dryer or heat gun to bake out the water and make them stick. They had both lights done in roughly 30 to 40 minutes. Plus if you ever got hassled about the tint you could remove it a lot easier than the spray on kind.

My dark Euro taillights

I ordered these from edworthys.co.uk, part # BM10L66S
Pros: they look pretty great on the car, and work fine.

cons: not sealed lenses [just a shell with a latching backpanel holding the bulbs.

Potential GOTCHAS: Not currently DOT approved [?] and some dealers will fail them on yearly inspection for this reason [ like my !@#$ dealer in virgina]. Other states seem to just not care.

regards,

rob

Thanks, I'll look into that kit from Moss MINI.
