Question re: License plate bracket.

So, I'm considering this item...

http://gominigo.com/18545.html

Question... I have the stock Cabrio Cooper S with a pre-mounted plate holder. Can I remove it? It's drilled already, right? This is really for people upgrading to an aero kit and purchasing an undrilled new fender, right?

You can remove your factory holder and use it without a problem. You of course will then just have some ugly holes in your bumper to content with.

You can plug the holes... there's some ebay stores selling those plugs.

just paint it to your orange color with touchup paint and you're good
to go. but honestly, unless you're going for performance benefits, why
even do it if you're gonna have a plate there anyway?

it's all or none. you got it or you don't.

I'd do it to better accomodate driving lights... depending on the setup and placement, a center plate might get in the way, and I like to have options. Unfortunately, I live in a state where I have to have a front plate. Plus, when I first saw it, I didn't like it, but it's sort of growing on me, looks-wise.

I've got one of those on my MCS. When I took delivery from Classic they stuck the plate holder in the boot instead of mounting it as some other dealers do. I wanted something different than the normal plate in the middle. I like the looks of the offset plate, kind of different. I've received quite a few postive comments from those who have seen it in person.

Our HBW MCS is on order with Mini of Murry (Salt Lake City). We like the looks of the side mount license plate mount. Should I ask my dealer to not mount the front plate? Are there holes from the factory?

Please explain....

Thanks!

Definitely ask your dealer NOT to mount the plate. The MCS and the MC do not come with any holes to mount the plate. The dealer has to drill them during final delivery prep.

I have the gominigo one above. Initially I was really happy with it, but now I'm a little mixed. The main weakness of the gominigo design is the flimsy metal piece that holds the plate to the large threaded stud that goes into the towhook threading. It really doesn't take much force to bend that little piece of metal. On the road one day a small chunk of tire flew up and hit my front plate. That bent the plate back into my bumpercover and I now have a little ding in the bumper cover as a result. The little metal strap was mangled, but I bent it back into shape (and bent my plate back into shape too). I like the design well enough, but I'd be happier with a thicker strap to go with that massive threaded stud.

I agree with Dave's assessment of the flimsy metal bracket. That was the one thing I wasn't real impressed with. Still, I like the overall design very much. It would also be fairly easy to replace the bracket with something a bit more sturdy.

We at GOMINIGO have been thinking about the same thing mentioned here. We have been redesigning and will be creating a new stronger brace, the first concern was what happens if someone hits the bracket walking by the car and hurts themselves. The second concern was weight. Also, we wanted to keep it adjustable. We are working a few options, may to offer a stronger bracket if requested.

We like the feedback and look forward to offering NAM members a variety of MINI products.
