onasled bought a new, sunroof free roof for his race car.

Mini-madness made a carbon fiber "filler" for the sunroof opening a few years ago for one of the car magazine's tuner challenges.

Randy Webb has 'deleted' the sunroof on the Mule.

Do you have specific questions, like a how to? Do you want to retain the functionality, or just board it up? Randy did the latter.

I deleted the sunroof from my order. Much easier that way. If you are going to run on the track removing all that glass is probably a good idea & possibly a requirement depending on the sanctioning body.

search the archives on Super Street's website. They had a project mini that they replaced the sunroof in, I believe they used a wooden frame and a carbon fiber or kevlar or something of that nature. I love my sunroof too much to get rid of it

Thanks for all the help guys. I was looking more along the lines of boarding it up or replacing with the roof of a car that did not come with a sunroof. Just wanted to see what people have done in the past on these cars.

I e-mailed the company who developed the CF roof and they said they would be able to do it...but only when the previous 50 orders were completed and they had more CF. Here is the article and the company.

That's one trick sunroof panel replacement. Did they give you an estimate on price?

NOOOOO..:impatient . It was more like an open-ended response. Much like a dealer service invoice.

Maybe 35 lbs lighter, not 75. The factory sunroof with the motor only weigh 50 lbs as I recall.

I did remove my roof skin and replaced it with a factory non-sunroof roof skin. About $400 for the new skin, but if you don't have a cage then you need the extra roof support. You'll save about 40 lbs with this or most other fixes.

That is a great article. Those are my kind of car guys. The bit about the girls was so funny. That happened to me on Sunday. Driving downtown and three girls are on the crosswalk and one of them squeals "look a Mini, I want one so bad!" I've thought about putting a lightweight panel in place of the sun roof.

cant you gut the motor and take the glass panels off and put a plexi glass cover over it? Ive seen it done to some tuner cars.

Plexi isn't very safe to use. It breaks in long shards. Lexan would be a better alternative.

I dont see why people would want to get rid of the awesome sunroof! I guess its different if you race it all the time. Still seams like a waste of $850 bucks

Well...I decided weight is my enemy. So, now I need to kill the mooroof. It is awesome though. Looks good on the car. I will eventually replace it w/CF. It's far down on my list though.

If you bought it used you could have probably shopped around for a mini without it and saved a chunk of change! haha
