Adding an Alarm and Wiper stalk question

I'm thinking of adding an alarm to my 05 MCSC from Classic Mini for $299. Unfortunately my Mini was an Sept O4 build which means that I do not have the wiper fluid indicator. Not a biggie, but is this something that can be retrofitted, so would I be better off requesting the alarm on the light switch stalk, or should I have the alarm indicator on the wiper stalk as Classic has it priced, at around $60. TIA Michael

I wouldn't even get an alarm. If it is for theft, I would get Lojack. Just keep all of your belongings out of plain view and you won't have any problems.

I figured out how to put the new alarm stalk on an Oct 04 build 05 MCS. It is not hard. Basically there are more free connector pins on the left stalk than right... so I did it, to free up the right side, but as I understand it, the BC1 computer has to be different to indicate the low fluid led on the right stalk. (You also have to replace the headlight wiper fluid container, with one with a low fluid sensor, and run a wire back to the bc-1. I haven't delt with all that mess, don't know if I ever will, but I have the option to put some sort of led on the right stalk now....

You can move the led to the left stalk, for about 10 bucks, as long as you are good at soldering, you need to cut one wire going to the right stalk connector, and route it to the left. The wire/connector pin you have to buy (that's the roughly $10 cost) has the connector already set to go so it just snaps into the left connector. You just need to be good at soldering in close quarters, and make sure you use heat shrink tubing to make the job look right.

Good Luck!

If you have an 04 then get the kit for that MY with the red alarm light on the RHS. I fitted one to my old 04 and it did not have a washer fluid indicator either. The only advantage of having the light on the LHS is that anyone can see it flashing if they look in the side window (I have this on my 06). I don't know why they didn't put it on the LHS to start with unless they didn't want to have two stalks (one with and one without the button for the OBC) - which they ended up doing anyway. Sometimes MINI does things that are not entirely logical.
