I just installed mine and had taken the advice to hit up the hardware store for all the bolts required on the install. Feels great! I'm out here in Houston and my only concern is the rust since I have the steel skid plate and not the aluminum. Anyone having serious rust issues ?
Just resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has confirmed an actual installation of the Cobalt skid plate on an automatic transmission equipped first Gen. I asked Moss Motors specifically this question, and this was their response:
Thanks for your inquiry, 100-063 fits MINI 02-06, 05-08 CONV, COOPER & S . Auto or manu trans

Still unsure based on everything I've read, and don't want to chance it with a purchase. Anyone confirm yet?
MossMotors response pretty much spells it out. Their skid plate #100-063 will correctly fit any R50, R52, or R53 (first Gen) with either a manual or automatic transmission.
Great plate, had mine since 2006. Aluminum material is holding up very well. Even through the road salt of the New England winters and hurricanes Irene and Sandy with all of their blown salt spray coating everything.
To Ernesto, where can i buy skid plate for 2008 mini cooper s in chicago, or if theres somebody who is working on it. Im from Chicago & i need this skid plate. thanks

Hmm.. Mine is a 2002 Cooper, so I've never looked for an R56 Skid plate.
I have a 2006 R53 auto. I'm looking for a skid plate as well. There is nothing under the car now. It looks like the previous owner ran a ground A LOT. So much that the bolts holding the missing plastic, are flat and I can't get the out.
Since Moss Mini is not longer selling current MINI parts, has anyone got any more ideas on where to get one.
FYI - I live in Northeastern Wyoming and down a dirt road, so getting something is a have to.

I would personally like to recommend, because mine is holding up so well, this skid plate.
The only different thing I would do is purchase the Aluminum version because I started getting a bit of rust on my skid plate. If you get the steel plate I'd also like to add that cleaning it out regularly would prevent the rust from forming.
Lastly, I'd like to mention that it would be a good idea to replace the bolts included with the skid plate with some from a hardware store (purchase washers as well) so you can have more uniformity with the bolt heads when going under to work on other items.
That is listed for a manual trans, which is all I'm running into. I found one on EBay but it doesn't list if it is for a manual or auto transmission. Since I have to get one shipped in, I would like to get it right the first time.

Oh Jeez. Sorry. The only thing I know about Automatic MINI's is to avoid them. I can only speak for Manual Transmissions because that is what I have experienced based off my current 2003 R50.
Crazy question.. But could you possible do measurements on it and post them? I recently got a price of 4'x3' , 1/4" aluminum sheet from one of my customers to make my own skid plate. Just wondered if you could do some measuring to make the whole thing easier in some of us who want to make one without a template one laying around.

Asking from a 10 year old post is a bit out there..
I actually just removed my skid plate yesterday to clean and repaint it, and might be able to help tomorrow night.
Not sure how detailed you need the measurements to be.. Send me an e-mail at steve@chicagominiclub.com
I have a skid plate like yours that I removed a while back for refinishing and in so doing I have misplaced some of the mounting hardware. I was wondering in anyone following this thread could provide with the specs for the bolts used the fasten the skid plate to the car. Thanks
Just painted mine.. I'll see if I can get you the number of the 4 main bolts tonight.. the front 3 and and 2 side ones dont have markings, but I could get you a pic if that would help.
Here are some photos of the bolts in my flickr album
The large ones say 8.8 on them.. same size as the MINI wheels bolts (17MM I believe)
The 3 fronts are 10mm.. the middle one is a little shorter than the other 2.
Hope that helps
