Interior/Exterior Racing harness + stock seats = royal PITA?
Racing harness + stock seats = royal PITA?
Ok, i have a conventional 4 point harness now.
i think i can manage mounting the harness in the rear and on the left side of the driver seat, but the right side, near the console, its really tight!
does anyone with stock seats run a harness that isnt a schroth? i need to figure out a place to mount the right side lap belt.

The same capscrew will end up going through both the stock seatbelt mount and the mounting plate for the harness. The only point in tipping the seat sideways is to gain some room to work in.
There is plenty of thread engagement on the capscrew, even with the harness plate on there.
How are you attaching the shoulder belts? Are you installing this for autocrossing, or open track work? There are some safety considerations, depending on your intended use.

Okay. The lap belt install shouldn't take you very long. You don't even need to disconnect the wiring harness from the seat.
For autocross only, I use a y-belt style shoulder harness with clip-on style end (intended to snap onto an eyebolt mount). I lower the rear seat, and clip it to the d-ring type mount that the rear seatback latches too. The other end is passed through under the headrest (between the posts) to keep the belts from sliding off either side. The end result is that the shoulder belts go pretty much straight back at a nice angle. I leave the lap belts in all the time, and just clip the shoulder belt in when I'm at an event.
For others, this attachment point is not suitable for track work. It should also not be used on the street. Just autocrossing.
Good luck. I've been using this setup (Simpson cam-lock 5 point) since late 2002.
