I am trying to make my MINI as close to dual-tone as possible. I am getting Chili Red w/ black roof, mirrors and wheels. I want the car to be as close to just black and red as possible so I was thinking it would be cool to put a number 3 billards ball as the shift ****. Most of the number 3 ***** are almost the same as red as the Chili red.

At the same time I would like the heavy feeling that many of the aftermarket ***** give. Do you think it would be possible to modify the billard ball in someway to mimic that feel? I mean could you cut one in half and fill it with lead or something?

Just thinking out loud right now.

I dont think you could cut one in half and make it right again but i see no probs with boring one out and adding the correct insert to make it work. I think the billard ball will have about the right weight to it as is and I've done this sorta thing before...although not with a billard ball but I like your idea!

Yeah i didn't really think you could cut one in half and get them back together intact.

I had been thinking that you could drill a hole through the bottom then fill in part of the gap with lead.

How much do those short shift ***** weigh anyway?

I have a feeling that 8ball might be able to give you some good advice about this!

I would probably get a 3 ball and an 8 ball just to see which one would look better.

Not sure how the one spot of red will look in an all black interior.

Yes...bore it out oversized and I suppose lead would be strong enough to hold insert or fill maybe just the majority with lead and install the insert with something a little tougher like JB Weld for example...that should work

You might want to send him a PM to ask him. Like I said though, my mind might just be playing tricks on me.... Either way, 8ball is cool, I'm sure he won't mind a PM!

BTW, I'm not sure either, but it does have potential to look pretty cool, IMO.

I was searching around a little bit and found a couple of good '8-ball' ***** but then stumbled onto the Whelan solid polished stainless steel ...
... the best 'real' billiard-type was from http://www.flameball.com - I did get one but it had threads for my Classic; They were talked about in a few other old threads so maybe they've got a good clip-on one now instead of just screw-on. They also had a RED 8-BALL (picture on their site)! Searching other shift **** or billard ball suppliers didn't get me anywhere so I was so glad when I found the steel one ... you might want to look into that if you are after weight - then take it to your local custom painter and apply the billard theme ...

Cool thanks for the link. Another reason I would like the billard ball was because I thought it would not feel nearly as cold/hot as the metal ball.

... the ball I got from Flameball feels great ... I was to follow through and get him dimensions for the MINI shift lever but got the steel before that ... He seemed like a very accomodating guy who would probably work with you to get the hole size right ..
