Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror

Has any one found this item very useful? Is it well worth it? Can you disable this option if you don't want to use it at that moment? Thanks

I have the auto dimming mirror. For my money it's well worth the price & very useful. There is no shut off switch for the mirror, but I believe if you put some black tape over the sensor that would turn it off.

It works very, very well. It also un-tints when you put the car in reverse.
I have never found a situation where I have wanted or needed to disable
it.

Got it and love it, Just wish the Driver side had the electro-chromatic mirror

just mt 2¢, but i agree with everyone here it's amazing. my previous experience was with the old clunky ones that were essentially mechanized versions of the manual flip switch. most of the time it was too dark. the mini's one is great because it only dims as much as is needed based on the light being shined on it.

and concur completely with thewrks, the same tech on the side views would be great.

Do any of you find the auto-dim mirror getting too dark? I am wondering whether there might be something wrong with mine. At night it is often very dark even when there is only ambient street light and no headlights are shining from behind.

Not at all. I think our MINIs mirror is just right - it's better than the mirror in our 9-3. With the 9-3, it gets so dark, that you really can't see the cars behind.

I like mine but have found that now, since I have tinted my windows, it's always auto dimmed :(

That's good to know. I did not order the auto-tinting mirrors on my '12 and I started second guessing myself about the choice because I do 90% of my driving at night (I work 3rd shift.) But I do plan on eventually getting my windows tinted 40% (35% is the legal limit here.) I would hate it if the mirrors were tinted all the time!
