Euro Parcel Tray

Anyone have any opinions on this? I just ordered one from www.outmotoring .com along with my aero grills and am just curious. It reminds me of the shelf in my 1970 Fiat 850 Sedan. You can see it here:

I'm shocked I dont see more posted about it. Especially since it is an official part.

I have one installed and know several other who do and they all like it. It is an official part for the rest of the world but not in the US, it is a safety problem here.

A great choice. It is the one add on I can recommend to everyone. It is simple enough to install yourself and gives you a great place to keep the items you need easy access to.

US requires a bolster to reduce the likelihood of a broken leg. I figured that the convience it provides was worth a broken leg. if someone drives your car, though, you must have them sign a waiver that they understand the risk of ... broken leg in case of accident, never wanting to go back to their own, increased desire to mod a car .

Try doing a search. There are about 5 million threads about it. Definitely search for the install threads before you attempt to install it yourself. It's gotten more difficult in newer cars; there's an additional metal brace or something that gets in the way.

I love mine. My iPod is usually the only thing that goes there, since that's where I put my aux input jack, but on longer road trips, a stack of CDs fits nicely there as well (assuming I'm not doing any quick launches).

Recommend to everybody. Have it for two years and it is great - use it mainly for storing my CD pouch

I've had mine in for a couple of years. It makes a great place to keep the Sin City MINI Club cards that I put on non-member MINIs when I spot them.

So are you saying mounting this thing requires modification?

I keep my ipod and sunglasses on the shelf.

It wasn't too hard to install. It just took a little pushing to get it to snap in

Euro Shelf

I highly recommend it.
Very easy install.
Was wondering what one does with the old bolster?

It sounds that way from what several people have posted, although I have an '05 and mine went in without any modification (still a pain, though!). Some people have had to remove a small section of plastic from an unexposed part of the shelf to get it to fit. If you do a search for parcel shelf install, I think there are some photos posted. Sounds like not too big a deal, but it definitely caused some headaches for people that had to figure it out for themselves. The install isn't too easy, but it's worth it!

One puts it in the garage or the attic and glares at it as it gets in the way for the next 5 years until one finally decides to throw it away.

It's not hard to install, but it will be much easier and save a lot of skin on your knuckles if you first tape the little tabs into place. Then poke holes in them with a toothpick. Once you have muscled the shelf into place, you will be able to get the screws in without the tabs moving out of range (if that happens, you have to remove the whole thing and start over again!).

I took the old bolster, put it in the box the parcel shelf came in, and stored it on a high shelf in the garage along with the instructions.

And, yes, it's not allowed in the US because of fears that your legs will be broken in a frontal collision.

. . . worth it though. We use it all the time.

LOL. We reached that point after about a year. It's going to the recycling center on Saturday!

I picked mine up at the dealer, they had it in stock. Althought it was a slight PITA to install, it still only took 10 minutes on my '06. You shouldn't need to modify anything to get it to fit. The hard part is getting a good angle to view the screw inserts and get them to line up.

Well, I keep mine on a shelf in my garage allong with the yellow parts that I replaced with black ones. If one of the moron SUV drivers around here manages to tag me and kills the MINI, I'll be able to color mod the same areas without having to buy parts. Or if I decide to sell Alice for some reason (can't see it happening but...) I can put him back to stock and use the shelf on the next MINI.

I also have one. I ordered it and had it before I took delivery of my MINI. It was one of the first things I did once I took delivery. I love it. It helps alot with the lack of places to put stuff. I also installed the Aux Audio input and my mp3 player lives there also.

I keep my sunglasses in there, and it is just the right size to hold one of those 32oz unbreakable water bottles snugly (on the right-hand side of the steering column). I had mine about a week before the car too. I almost brought it to the dealer to install, but decided not to install it while waiting.

My suggestion on the install is to pre-thread the screws into the blue tabs before even going out to the car. Then back them out, and head out to do the install. I fought with it for 20 minutes before I took it all out and held the passenger side tab with a pliers so I could get the screw in. It was like the screw was almost a size to big it was so stinking tight.

I immediately threw the old piece into recycle bin, should I regret that?

I ordered all the parcle shelf parts piece by piece and skipped the pricy anti skid rubber cover, now have to find an 'after market' cover, think I need to check out home depot, any suggestions?

Go to local wally mart or Big K and look in the hardware section for tool tray liner. Sheets of rubber in a checkerboard pattern. It was designed to protect tools from steel tool drawers. Maybe $5 or so per roll and one roll is enough to do just about every MINI on your local dealerships inventory.
