06 tails in a 02 ?

Could someone tell me if my tail lights from my 06 will work in a 02? Seems that they'd bolt in ok, but would the wiring be different?

Thanks.

Physically they are drop in but wiring is the difference. Though some one out there should be able to hook you up with a solution for the wiring.

I have seen Pre '05 people want the 2005/06 tails...

I have also seen the Post '05 want the 2002-04 tails.

Check out: http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop.php?action=productshow&id=149

Send these folks an e-mail. I'm sure they sell the kit for adapting the pre 05 wiring to the 05+ tail lights.

Very quick service too.

Thanks for the help guys. I just put a set of 05 Euro tails in my 06 that I bought from the fine folks at newministuff.com. I've got my 06 tail lights for sale in the marketplace & I've been asked if they'd fit a 02.

I'm guessing a bit of work may be needed. You might try theses guys for some info. http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...uctshow&id=184 I found them most helpful when I ordered my euro tail lights.

It depends on your definition of plug and play.

You need to buy the lights and an adapter. Plug the adapter into the existing wiring harness and then plug the lights into the adapter. Then they bolt in.

If the use of an adapter violates your personal definition of plug and play.....

the dealer has the retrofit kit, so you can buy the adapter plug directly from them.

I believe its called an "update" kit, not a retrofit.

You do not need an adaptor when putting in an 05 light in an pre-05 car. Unless you want the extra reverse light. To make use of the reverse light you can do what I did Need to get amber bulbs for them though.

and yes I'm using the reverse light as my turn signals. I personally think they should've been this way from the factory. I really like amber turn signal lights but not particular fond of the amber lens in the pre-05 MINIs.

Barnabas,

Thanks for clearing that up. On newministuff.com they talk about putting red bulbs in. I think the amber bulb is a better idea.

Hey no problem Remember you don't need an adapter unless you want the reverse lights to function as a reverse light! Just switch wire #1 and #3 around for both connector, and your "reverse light" is now a turn signal!

I'm all about saving $ :D
