Jango got his first good detailing today as the fresh paintwork needed some time to cure. Here he is after a clay, 2 grades of polish and 1 coat of Zaino Z2

Beautiful job! My husband wished we had the powder white I think - he drools when he sees one. He really likes your look

South Bay MINI painted wheel arches?

Did South Bay MINI in California do this? Or perhaps their outside shop? How much did they charge you?

I had numerous shops turn me down for the work... too much time or too much risk as it is somewhat difficult to get the paint to stick to textured plastic.

One shop wanted $500 for the work w/ no guarantee (standard tuner body shop).

One shop wanted $1500 w/ a 3 year guarantee (Ferrari / Lambo / Porsche Shop)

Of all the prices I've heard of, the $500 is on the cheap side and the $1500 is on the expensive side. I went with the high-end work as I trusted the shop and they have a great reputation. It's a lot of work to chemically strip, sand, prime, sand, prime, sand, paint, paint and clear the parts. There are a lot of nooks and cranies in the parts and it takes a careful / thorough person to do the job right.

Also,

Add $500 for the Aero side sills (I love 'em but dislike the Aero bumpers, so I just got the sills from Outmotoring.com)

Add $300 for a new set of arches from the dealer if your current arches have ever seen a silicone-based dressing. (I bought 'em and then sold my originals which were clean + my old MCS side skirts for $300)

Add $30 for new clips for the arches and trim pieces... Once you have stretched 'em by removing the pieces, you might as well replace 'em if you want a good fit.

I met John briefly at MOTD 2006... His car is much more agressive than mine and the pictures don't do his car justice. There are TONS of little touches that really show his style. It's a very cool ride!

I think that killboy includes a picture of John's car in the "Mini Extras" folder, if you order a CD from him. I'll have to dig around at home one day and post that pic as well!

And for more pictures of John's car, see the MC2 that is arriving in your mailboxes right now! He was holding out on us! There's a 3-4 page spread in there on his car. Very nice! His wheels are too agressive for Jango, but I can see that I've gotta head in that direction soon... they are way too cool!
