I experimented in photoshop, but I am fairly new to the program. You get the idea. I think that chrome part, if painted, makes a world of difference to the taillight. If anyone is better than me at photoshop, let me know, I am interested to see this in Dark Silver if possible.

Dude, on DS/B you have to go for the tinted tails from MINI-Madness. I think the Altezza painted body color would be nice on a lighter colored car though, maybe. Like Pepper White or Silk Green.

This looks AMAZING, do you or anyone know how much this cuts down on the light output of the tail lights? I've heard rumours that insurance companies don't like when you tint your lights but on a DS/B, which everyone knows is the best colour this looks FANTASTIC.

The seprate light pods just do it for me Davbret. I like how it seems to come out of the body work. Plus I am not to keen on the sticky tint film.

I know I know, these are not the Altezza's but they are the fronts and the Altezza's could be painted to match.....

Just an idea

As already discussed in another thread, this is a cool looking trick to do, but is not functionall. The mirrors inside the light housing actually do concentrate the light beams to the road in fromnt of the car. If you paint over the mirrored area you will be a hazzard to yourself and others.

!!!WARNING!!!

DO NOT DO THIS MOD ON AN OPERATIONAL CAR!

The Chrome is paintable.... the Sockets the lamps are in should not be touched....

And If you Have HID's neither matters.

AGAIN....

THE CHROME HOUSING IS NOT REFLECTING THE LIGHT INTO A BEAM, It's the CHROME SOCKETS.

ENJOY!

Ill only say it one last time then shut the hell up. Be safe don't paint the mirrored parts of your light sets. There is a reason for them to be mirrored. There are lights that can be used in the way that is discussed, but the standard and Zenon bulbs are not designed that way.

We are not talking about the chrome trim are we? I am speaking of the Mirrored section beneath the glass.

Sorry fo rthe dissagreement, I just want people to be safe.

Frank

shaskan, you really can paint this area with no light quality loss. It is not serving any light reflection purpose other than to look pretty.

Here's a good example:

modified WRX headlamp

As you can see, there are still the individual lamp elements, as there would be with the Cooper, the area around them is black. In this case it's a whole different lamp assemblly, but it's the same concept. Take a look in the headlamp. There are individual lamps under the glass. It's not just bulbs under there.

Thanks Dave.....

It's like the Ferrari's
There is no harm to be done if done correctly.

And thanks for the compliments... I was afraid to color the chrome ring.... I may do it for a hoot.

These look like totally different tail light, but I love them. I also like the painted trim on the headlight MightyMiniz. Might be a Vmaxx product, but I can't find it on the site.
