Passenger Airbag Shutoff

Does anyone have any information on the passenger airbag shutoff. I have 8 yr old triplet grandchildren and this would help greatly when all three ride with me in the MINI. I always have them in booster seats and seatbelted in, as required by law. I won't take all three of them on trips if one has to ride in the front seat because I'm scared of the airbag. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

RETROFIT KIT, PASSENGER AIRBAG SHUTOFF

The information can be found at http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=RC31&mospid=48010&btnr=61_1940& hg=61&fg=95&hl=7

Yours is an '05 so I thought it should already have this, unless it's an early '05 Iguess...

From my understanding, to have an airbag disabled or an "on/off" switch installed requires premission from the NHTSA:

NHTSA Information

The problem is, even with permission, it is VERY difficult to find a dealer to do it.

The only information I could find on the MINI OEM switch was this picture:

I hope you have more success than me.

Thanks folks for the response. I am printing out the form and I'll give it a try. If that doesn't work I'll just do it myself, if I can order the parts!!!!!

' 05 Minis have a weight sensor in the seat. When a person is not heavy enough, the light comes on letting you know know the air bag is off. No switches.

That started in the Jan 05 production, so the ones made before then do not have it.

If you do get more info on the parts (price, US availability, etc) please keep us posted.

Thanks

Well it looks like this is only available in Europe/UK. I wish I could be the seat sensor installed. I'm due for a service in the next month or two, so, I'll check with my MA to see what the dealer can do.

The dealership can disable the airbag for you. They'll make you sign some forms, but they can do it. And it's all done electronically, no retrofitting necessary

I wonder if some of our friends from across the pond could help us with the parts? Any idea if there is any dealer programming necessary to make the kit work?
