I found a long freeway on ramp to do my thing. It's one of the ones with a long, straight part for the cloverleaf that allows you to get "up to speed" before merging. I stage, and sit there until it's all lear (on the sholder, out of the way) and then go for it. If I really push it, I can get a quarter mile time, but then I'm wayyyyyy speeding. I can do 2nd gear HP runs all day though, and barely get extra-legal.

verry nice.

here's where mine ended up, but I'm going to re-do it. I'm going to copy your placement of the kill switch.

I ain't thin...

And I got a bunch of options on my car. It's got leather, Xenons, nav....
I didn't get HK, rain sensing ww, or a sunroof. And I'm 220 lbs. (lovable lbs, but a lot none the less). I took the 2750+ and added the rest in and guessed for the 3050 I put in. TonyB (if he had one of these tools) would put in a much lower number....

Lets see a PIC . The plug head is an odd shape isn't it, I drilled a 1/2 hole and pushed.

Overall this was pretty easy wasn't it and its in a nice reachable spot.

thanks for the pics - especially the one showing the Gtech base attached to the trim ring (i didn't take a pic of it and it will help others). Another thing that came to mind (of course after the install) was not to drill the trim ring but make a spacer out of wood that would raise the Gtech base to the same heigth as the trim ring.

On to the Gtech itself - what "wieght" are you using and what HP & TQ figures are you seeing?

Find a good alignment shop that does corner balancing.

They'll have the scales to weigh your car. It may cost a few $, but then your numbers will be better.

Some have stopped at truck scales as well. But here in CA, if they're open, there are always long lines of trucks!

Thought I'd share a couple of runs.

BUT I CAN"T GET PIC INSERTED .

Best I can do is put the runs in My Gallery.

What I find interesting is -

TQ curve: peaks early (3800) and stays relatively flat to 5000 rpm
HP curve: steady sloped curve all the way up to 6200 rpm

Didn't want to drill into the Batmini if I didn't have to... And I wouldn't want the post sticking out of the dash if I had to pop out or stash the Gtech for some reason, so I went with the suction cup.

I installed a 12v accessory plug from my local auto parts store (as per BahamaBart, Red Rage, & others) and installed it on the right hand top side of my parcel shelf. The Gtech cable when plugged in goes straight back, the little twisties on the cable hold it there, and after clearing the rear of the parcel shelf to the right of the steering column, it goes left under the column, then continues left above the left side of the parcel shelf. The rest is fairly self explained by the pics:

Thanks for all the pics & tips guys. My Gtech is in a much better location, properly mounted, more aesthetic, and unlike before off the center console power... Now it works!

Wagnbat - an excellent compromise.

Obnxs - it was those 4 holes you drilled in the dash that did you in!!!! Just drilling the trim ring, I had to take 3 deep breaths and a shot of tequila to steady my hands .

I might be following suit fairly soon. I like the install options guys! Thanks Bahamabart for sharing, and Matt for paving the way...

Is there a mode where one can just view RPMs, but in decimal form? I really like the accuracy of my shift light... Thanks.

Glad you liked it.

I'd like to thank -

Matt, he scared the crap out of me when he posted pics of his drilled dash. Gave me nightmares :impatient he should have captioned "warning the pics you are about to see maybe frightening to some viewers". BUT it's a killer mount job - right in the line of sight. I got as far as holding a dremel in my hands but got no further.

I'd also like to thank Corona for helping me think outside the box. "so where can stick this thing?"

I'd like to thank BMW for making the trim ring pop out so easily. Had it been any harder I would have given up on the idea and kept drinking (my inlaws were over). So I should also thank my inlaws - who I was trying to hide from and ended up in the garage.

TonyB - in drag mode the tach is a "dial". In race mode, I believe it displays the tach numerically but very small (i.e. not a dedicated like the drag mode tach. Nor is it the primary display on the screen). Have to admit that I'm just getting drag mode down and spent little time in race mode.

When you calibrate...

the display is digitial. The hardest part is getting the Mini to hold constant revs at 3000 or so......

Wagnbat,
Thanks, like you I didn't want to make use of the side defroster but liked the location. Your solution is just what I'm looking for.
