Interior/Exterior Aero Bumper Seeks Enlightenment
Aero Bumper Seeks Enlightenment
Hello & Happy Holidays, all.
I am really hoping some here may find the time to help me sort an odd question regarding the front aero bumper.
I'm having the front areo bumper installed & find none of the matte black plastic trim included. I've talked to the MINI parts guy who assures me the parts do not exist &/or are not possible to order.
Surely these black trim parts exist.
Right?
Please enlighten me.
Tell me I'm either crazy or how to obtain part numbers for these bits.
=> I'm in a terrible spot now, trying to surprise the wife for x-mas.
They tell me the only solution is to sand down the outer edge & paint it black, which of course will not match the wheel arch trim very well, or the rocker panels, - well, you all know.
OK.
Thank you in advance.

The dealer is correct. these pieces are integrated into the aero kit bumper. But, I believe that it does match very well it looks good not like some aftermarket piece of crap...Your dealer has probobly had more that one before. Just make sure that the body shop the dealer farms this out to has done it before and knows to follow the book. I have heard of one horror story where the aero was painted all body color, and the rest of the trim was not!
Sure looks likes different
From the picture, it raelly looks to be the very same plastic used in the wheel arches. Odd.
planeguy-- Thanks. Wow. So, I am wrong. Damn. So, the outer rim really just gets sanded down & painted black, as the body shop suggests?
mdsbrain-- I gotcha. I realize those bits are different. Thanks, though!

I'm wrecked, then.
It's never going to match as well as if the plastic were used.
Guess I need(ed) to look at more pics of others with this bumper.
Thanks for the clarity, all.

i have painted a few aero kits and it does match well after it is all done. the directions have the paint code and tell you how to paint it. read them here. the other part is the fog light black out kit. don't worry it will look good when it's done. go for it!

we do these quite often at my shop, there is actually a spray aerosol you can buy that is specifically for this (black auto trim) . I think its called satin black euro flexible paint. It matches the stock arches amazingly well. Also, if you are that worried about it not matching then have them blend it into the hood arches as well.
I knew it had to be out there!
Thanks for the tease, jst4fun!
The body shop is ready to go, - so I'll have them paint it now & continue the search for the plastic later, I guess.
