I just got my shelf today, and installed it in less than an hour. It definatly did not just slide right in to place, but wasn't too much of a pain to install. The clips on the back of the shelf will absolutly not "snap" in to place, but since the shelf rests on the cross support bar, I am not worried about it.
The two screws did go in to the blue moutning clips pretty easily, although at a small angle.
I probably spent more time with my head down in the footwell trying to zip tie my Parrot EVO Bluetooth kit up behind the shelf, than installing the actual shelf.
Now that it's all in place though, I am very happy with it. Well worth the money.
I was installing mine last night, too, but it got too dark and I got a little
frustrated trying to get the screws in so I quit for the evening and will
finish it up when/if it ever quits raining.
Does anyone have a copy of the official installation instructions or those
from Jason Livingood (his web page no longer loads so I suspect it may
have been deleted or the link has changed) that they could send me?
I just want to check a few things and did not get any kind of installation
instructions from OutMotoring with the part.
I installed a parcel tray in an '05 awhile back, and had difficulty with the right side screw. The finished install looked like everything was in place. But, today in recently trying to solve a dash rattle, I took off the 3 painted dash pieces, and found the right side screw was not actually through the blue piece. It's much easier to see that the screw is correctly placed with the left painted dash piece off. The mis-placed screw may have been the source of the rattle.
Wanting something different, I installed a "bootleg" Euro Knee Bolster
We now have these: They have changed the insides of the Driver Side Euro Cubby, over the years, to smooth plastic in black and there is a grippy pad bonded to the bottom so items will not slide around. Very nice for extra storage. Also snaps into the bottom, then swings to snap then the top, just like the stock piece.
Things will not slide out of this as is has a bottom lip and a grippy material bonded to the bottom. Since its more enclosed on the side, it tends to hold things better then the old open Euro Parcel shelf.
Here is the measurements of the cubby itself: ~ 5 inches deep ( bottom ) , 4 1/2 inches wide, and 4 inches tall. Because it curves down the very top depth is ~7 inches deep.
This is enough for a cell phone, sunglasses ( even more room sideways ), iPod, MP3 player, wallet, etc. Since its black on the inside it looks a little smaller (depth) in the pics.
Also if you have the passenger side standard glove box it matches a little better with the curve. Check out the install pics.
