Passenger parcel shelf?

OK, so I was looking up the part numbers for the Euro parcel shelf on realoem.com...

And I found this page:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=51&fg=30

Now, pay attention to the RIGHT side of the diagram, particularly part numbers 04 and 05 on the list.

Looks like ANOTHER shelf for the passenger side of the vehicle? Does anyone know about this? The real question is, does this replace the glove box, or does it supplement it, below?

Curious minds must find out!

Hrm, OK... so it DOES replace the glove box.

Nah, I think I'll keep my glove box. Holds things more securely. And I hoped it somehow mounted underneath the glove box!

The passenger shelf is a BMW/MINI part number, and so is the rubber liner for it... you can probably just order them from any MINI dealer.

If not available from USA MINI dealers, try a Canada one, they can probably get them.

I am fairly sure that this is common in european MINIs. Some of them do not come with gloveboxes... the MINI one maybe??

Can anyone confirm?

any dealer can get one.

the shelf is the typical 35 bucks, but the liner is like 50, go freakin figure.

go look at all your metal mini model cars, none of them have glove boxes!

I did this to my 2002 MCS quite a while ago. After about a year, the glove box would not stay closed - it fell open at the slightest bump. Real PITA. The dealer adjusted it - replaced it - no help. This was before the locking glove box came out.

So I found the UK version of the Parcel shelf on RealOEM - ordered the parts from Classic MINI and installed it in 10 minutes flat. Works fine. IMHO - Skip the expensive liner.

Looks like a great space to install a diabolical MINI-based world domination machine....or something.

I prefer having a glovebox. I have the euroshelf on the driver's side, and that is awesome!

So you take out the glovebox door and install the right side parcel shelf. Now you have a temperature controlled shelf! Big deal. I'll stay with the glove box, even though I don't have any gloves in it.

If you look in the early MINI brochures you will find pictures of the parcel shelf on both sides of the dash. I have a brochure dated February of 2001, so it must be an original brochure. Remember, the car was sold in other countries before the USA.

Other parts of the world get 2 shelves and no glovebox. If my glovebox door starts acting up I would get a second shelf instead of replacing it with a locking glovebox. I have an 03 so I didn't get the locking glovebox, and from what I can gather it is an expensive upgrtade for me!

I have the passenger shelf in my 03 S. I ordered it from my dealer in Scottsdale.
I like it because it provides more room for the passengers legs, just like the driver's side shelf over the stock bolster.
I find it offers as much storage space, I ca even keep a midsize purse there.
The one DIY addition necessary is a small elastic net on the lower part of the opening. Even with the liner things wound up on the seat when the accelerator was used too agressively..... LOL!

Hear, hear!
I don't know how many times I've had stuff fly out.
Some sort of net would sure help.

Oh, I have parcel shelves on both sides- driver and passenger.
