Just put on a Saab trunk handle
I came from a Saab to my '06 MC. Saved the Saab silver bright 'trunk handle' (mounts underneath the plate and plate frame to provide a spot to push the trunk lid closed without pressing on the plate frame, or paint or chrome above the plate. Perfect fit. Put it on under my Union Jack stainless plate frame. Not the cheapest item around, but I'm glad I saved it because I knew it'd fit.

Apologies that the car is filthy. Picked it up Thursday in Winston-Salem and it's been raining just about constantly since, and when not haven't had time to wash it.
The link in my post is to the Saab handles. I saved the one from the car I sold. You mount the handle 'plate' inside the license plate frame, so the bottom of the handle points away from the bootlid. You push down on the handle to close the boot. Same principle as license plate or Mini badge. I just happened to have one and I knew it would fit.

Thanks for passing this tid-bit along.
Sounds like something I might try as I usually just try to only touch the Mini badge when closing the trunk lid.
I can make one of these for free out of scrap aluminum. Leave it to Saab to come up with the idea. I sure enjoyed my 84 Saab 900, a great car to drive and lots of options as standard equipment for a very good price.

My MINI dealer showed me that the grab handles on the INSIDE of the boot are what you're supposed to grab in order to shut it.
Next time you need to shut the boot, look up. There are two circular grab handles molded into the plastic; one on either the left, or the right. Reach up, grab one, and just pull the boot down.
You have to give it a pretty good yank, but it'll definitely close.
That way, you don't have to touch ANY PART of that filthy, dusty exterior to shut the boot...

Topic got hashed out in this thread based on what a paintless dent remover told me fwiw - https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=55857

Exactly what I do. The best way to close your boot IMO.
