I am wrestling with the idea of purchasing the Whalen shift **** with CooperSpeed engraved in the top. It will set me back $150. Opinions...

I've had the Whalen Shift Machine for awhile and it's Great! I've got plain solid polished stainless with no engraving and that little mirror ball is like a jewel in the middle of the cockpit .... it is a bit cold on frosty mornings, but even in city commutes, I don't have to touch it that often , then it warms ...
... the price is steep but ... just consider it a Valentines' gift to the one who really matters!

True...polished or brushed...still can't decide on that either.

Oh, and if you go the Rspeed route, ask Peter at Rspeed to send the shifter to "Knobmeister" to have it engraved. He's a cool guy, also a Miata head, that does tons of engraving for cheap.

... part of the appeal for me was that Whalen makes theirs to 'lock' onto the stock lever - there are little ***** that grab the groove on the shaft; being a Machinery Junky, it was too cool to pass up ...

I opted for the satin finish Whalen **** with the shift pattern engraved on the top. Its the only mod Ive made to my MCS and I love it. Although admitedly the price defines it as purely luxury, for something so seemingly simple, there is an incredible amount of engineering that has gone into it.

Its not as cold in winter as I expected. Havent had it in the summer yet but I do fear that shift pattern may be tatooed onto my palm come July or August.

Thanks!

It's always nice to hear from someone who appreciates a little engineering and machine work

Hmmmm, the RSpeed is substantially lower in price. I have to do my homework. Here is a pic of a Whalen install...

Thats is what dragged me into this mess.

Thanks!

But I have to clarify a couple things about that website.
That site is old, made before the ***** were adapted to fit the MINI, and the part about shortening the shift throw only applies to other BMW models.

Also, that site doesn't offer any mention of the engraving option.

HOPEFULLY, my new site will be up and running soon, and it will provide more pertinent info for you MINI folks!

If I can figure out how to post pics here, I'll put up a couple of some engraved *****.

I'll lend you some advice on posting pics. when you find a pic that you wanna post, it has to be on the net already. Right click the image and select properties. Highlight the "Address (URL)" and merely copy that in when you select the image option at the bottom of your post screen. Its that easy. Good luck!

Have ordered my Whalen **** with the shift pattern on the radius. I'm also having my license plate engraved on the ****........This is some really beautiful work and will make your MINI that much more individual. Also, Doug is a really cool guy to deal with and will help you out as much as possible!
