chrome boot handle has fat gasket

Just installed a chrome boot handle on my S, and found that the gasket is thicker than the one on the handle I took off, so the new one sticks out a bit and you can see the black gasket. I've screwed it as tight as it feels comfortable to do. Has anyone else had any experience with this? Should I try to take the gasket off the original and trade them, or will the new one "squish down" over time?

I think it might squish down. I bought a used chrome handle and it did not seem appreciably different than the one I took off. Maybe try to re-tighten th escrews in a week or 2.

The gasket on my (non-chrome) boot handles were the thick squishy foam stuff. I would imagine that it will compress over time.
