Interior/Exterior Bonnet stripes installation charge?
Hi,
I am currently awaiting the arrival of my MC, and decided that I want to get bonnet stripes put on. I was wondering if any of you could give me a rough idea about how much the installation charge is for this? I suppose this will depend on my dealer. Any advice would be most helpful  Also, does anyone know the archival factor on the material used for the bonnet stripes, will they eventually yellow or peel after years of exposure to the elements?
Thanx in advance for your help!

I have had custom stripes done at a sign shop a few times now (I get bored easily). Each time it has cost $30 for materials and $45 for the installation.
You can replicated the MINI stripes for cheaper than you can buy them. As an added bonus, if the sign shop does them, they will look nicer too, since you can have the stripes run the full length of the bonnet.
Not to mention you can take your own wag at interpreting what the stripes should look like. Here are a couple versions of the stripes I have had on my MINI.

This is one of those DO It Yourself'ers. Definitely take it to a sign shop. They have all the vinyl you need and it really isn't that hard to do. Plus you can do any design. Not just the plain stripes that the dealer does.
I am getting Bonnett Stripes on Friday at Pretige MINI in NJ. The cost of the stripes (white) are 78.50 and installation is 43.00 for a total cost of 121.50.

There are a lot of threads that explain how to do it. I did mine back in June of '02 in about 15 minutes. It is extremely easy using the "wet method". It helps to have an assistant also.
Real quick from what i can remember-
1) Get wax remover and remove wax from hood.
2) Eyeball one stripe (they have sides so make sure you know your left from right) and get it just how you want it. Some people hate the gap that the OEM stripes leave. I could care less...
3) Use masking tape to hold down the stripe and use small pieces of masking tape as arrows or dots on the hood to outline in key areas/points where the stripe will be adhered to... as a guide/template.
4) Measure the distance from the stripe to hood ornament and at the top to the vent.
5) Fuss with the other side, measure, tape down and step back... making sure it looks right to you.
6) Remove the stripes and then soak the hood with the soapy water. (Do this in a garage with no sunlight and wind to dry everything out while your working)
7) Place the sticky stripe down and align with your alignment masking tape.
Squeegee using a “v” motion from the top of the stripe working your way down to the bottom – sending the water out from under the decal to the sides of the stripe – don’t try to do one long swipe and don’t be afraid to press hard on the squeegee to remove the air/water bubbles… but don’t be a retard about it either..
9) Repeat on the other side. And wipe up your mess
10) Enjoy your new stripes. Don't forget to re-wax.

Be careful with the "soak" part -you only need a drop or two of detergent in a quart spray bottle mixed with water. JOY is a good soap to use due to lack of fragrance and coloring. Too much or the wrong kind of soap can adversely effect the adhesive backing. Hope this saves someone some heartache
