Auto Up Windows

Does anyone know if there is a way to have auto up on the windows? It's a pain to have to hold the button, and I miss it from when I had it on my golf...

Thanks!

Do a search on "auto up windows" and you'll hit a thread about Ian Cull's "MINI circuit". It is a circuit board that sits between the ribbon cable and the plug on the back of your toggle switch board. For about $50, you can get one that enables auto-up windows, turns off traction control and operates your garage door opener. I've had mine installed for about 2 years, and have installed about a dozen in Sin City MINI Club cars.

silly question, but why has no one started a petition for auto-up from MINI? It's already in the Euro-spec MINIs and many other companys supply auto-up in the US like VW and Toyota. A petition brought fog lamps here and the antracite headliner back, why not auto-up? just curious

A petition for auto-up windows won't work.

For the rear fogs, we had safety on our side - an extra bright rear light in fog is a definite benefit for any car and especially for a little car.

Auto-up windows is definitely not a safety feature and in fact because the windows do not have any real sensitivity to an object blocking the way, it can be argued that auto-up would be an unsafe addition.

In Europe they allow the driver side auto-up on the assumption that the driver is smart enough to know what he/she is doing - sadly in USA that cannot be assumed

PS:
Thanks everyone for the praises ... my last batch just arrived today; I will re-start taking orders soon - but this time my cut-off at 1000 pieces will stand. You will all own a "1 in 1000" piece of MINI uniqueness

Thanks Ian, I was afraid it was something like that. Well, that settles it. I'll have to buy your circuit. and considering the number of happy customers, I'm sure I'll love it, too.

More praise....

It's been said before...

It was really easy to install

Awesome in parking garages and toll gates when you need to be focused on driving instead of holding up toggles.

Thanks for making it available to the MINI community,

Erik

Ian-
You are the MAN! Mine went in in less than 20 minutes, had the best instructions of any mod I have done (except maybe minirolls reverse light mod). Works perfectly, as well asthe the DCS disbale working perfectly. Even my wife, who didn't read the directions can run it and program it with just my explanation. If only everything on our minis was this easy!

Don't tell me you are done after the next batch of 1000!! I may need to by an extra just in case we get another mini!

I just installed my auto-up window circuit on my '05 (which is small bit more complicated and takes a little bit longer) in 45 minutes.

I LOVE IT!! Finally I have the same window functionality as my wife's Audi.
As others have said, and I will repeat: It's the best $45 dollars I've spent on my MINI.

wow... I won't even be ordering my MCS until early to mid october, but it's looking like I'd better order the auto-up now to make sure I get one. worst case scenario I'm sure someone will take it off of my hands if something (god forbid) with the car falls through.

I can already hear the GF questioning buying parts for a car I haven't even ordered yet,

Don't worry; that's completely normal ... I had a replacement toggle switch panel and euro shelf about three months before GBMINI#2 arrived

Hello Ian. Been reading about your very cool mod. Will it work on the '06s?

I can't say for sure - I haven't seen an '06 yet

But the same circuit is fine on 02/03/04/05 models, both hardtop and convertible, in USA and Europe, England, Australia ...

Don't see any reason why the final year of the current MINI design would be any different. It just would not make sense for there to be a change in the cars wiring now.

It just kills me that BMW puts them on the 'Propellor Cars', but will not do it for MINI

yikes, according to Ian's website

September 9, 2005: 882 MINI circuits shipped. Note that there will only ever be 1000! When I reach that count, I will stop selling them
I just hurried up and ordered mine. Only 118 left...

i just ordered one auto-up and one auto-up & track dsc. i didn't want to miss out on this great feature.

i was also thinking that a wiring change for the '06s would be strange with the new design to come out next year.

thanks for providing something special

I received my auto up over the weekend. I'd have put it in, but I had the windows tinted last Thrusday, and can't put the windows down for a few more days! I'm also working on putting the Aero grilles on my MCS bumper as well - oh what fun!!

Went ahead and bought it just now, even though my car is still 3 months out.

You freaked me out when i saw that i would only be able to get it for a limited time.

This is a great accessory and will order it soon.
But aren't you able to shut off the DSC normally in the car?

Ian,
I'm not sure if anyone has requested it yet, but is there a version or a way to get not just auto front fogs but also auto rear fog when the headlights are in the on position? I'm definately ordering the rear fog... it would be nice not to have to worry about turning either on each time.

You can, but the circuit allows you to have it turn the DSC off automatically every time you start the car (by default DSC will always be on when you turn on the car).

I've seen it mentioned in the forums, and also mentioned that it wouldn't be done for safety reasons (the rear fogs might be illegal to keep on all the time, and are not appropriate to have on all the time due to location and brightness).
