The "Missing" switch

Does anyone know of an aftermarket switch assembly to fill in the otherwise empty #4 spot? A cursory look indicates that it is all one unit so it would mean replacing the entire bank. Vendors, how about it? TIA

Yes, that's correct. If you want to add the rear fog light, you have to replace the whole switch panel.

It would be nice if there was another way to use that slot.

I have read in the past that some have drilled and

mounted their own switches in the switch bank. Usually from buying a individual switch out of the a replaced 5 position switch bank. This requires drilling and some knowledge of how to mechanically make it work and insuring that electrically it also works, but can be done.

Cheaper and easier to buy the whole bank from mini.

Scotteast, had it correct, just order the rear fog light kit. That includes the correct 6 switch circuit board, everything plugs in and you then only have to have the dealer connect it to their computer to activate it.

That is what I did on my '02 as the rear fogs were not offered as an option when I ordered it.

Thanks all,

Seems that I wouldn't have to actually install the fog light but could then use the switch for whatever ... ejection seat ... self destruct ... cloaking device. I'll check the pricing Tues when Rodan goes in for some warranty work. Thanks again.

you can save some money by buying the bank from

classic mini of ohio ... call the parts department up, or send an email in the vendor forum. They are very kind to NAM members and have a good discount if you want to do that yourself and not incur a labor charge - if you are going to activate the fog light option on your car - that will require a dealer re-program of your cars computer. Seems like most charge for this, some don't depending on circumstances....

FWIW, I saw pics of someone's car where they installed the Aux Input jack for the radio in the empty space.

The 6 switch circuit board is $75.00 if my memory is correct.

It's not a switch, but my alarm's LED blinker fills mine.

You can install a DUMMY toggle fairly easily, but since it's a PCB, you can't (easily) 'wire' the switch to work.

Here are detailed instructions:
http://bobodyne.com/web-docs/robots/...tch/index.html

To put in a dummy toggle, just put the toggle and two white spacers after drilling out the front panel.
