Interior/Exterior Door Panel Inserts
Door Panel Inserts
I have an '05 JCW with the Lapis interior and anthracite trim, and my only nit has been that I think the door panels don't carry enough of the color theme of the interior. I was able to find a local upholstery guru (this guy has appeared regularly on 'Overhaulin'), and explained what I wanted. A few weeks later (he stays very busy), I had what I was looking for. There are better shots in my gallery.
A 'please' would be nice.
Anyway, can't explain the construction, since I wasn't there for his work, but the basic concept is that he first cut a form that fit in the oval area of the door - this took some time as he continually refined the shape to have it match the panel to his satisfaction. He then bonded the blue leather to the panel (I think it might have some sort of bunting behind it). For attaching to the door, he used a combination of mechanical (pins) and adhesives. That's about all I can tell you, hope it's a start. Paying a pro was the way to go for this mod.
