Front splitter (M7 or others)

Ok I think it looks great but are their any performance aspects of it? I did a quick search and can't find anything about front splitter and the mini. I find a bunch on others which indicate that there is more downward pressure but is that the case? Numbers? Experienced drivers that can tell a difference, or is it purely cosmetic?

Much of it is a cosmetic change to the car to make it look like it came from the track. However, it isnt all aesthetic. It provides a downward pressure on the frunt of the car to allow for better handeling. Similar to a wing in method, it also has the same weakness. Too much down angle and instead of better grip you are simply getting more drag.

I am going to m7's r&d center this weekend, so i'l give you my opinion once ive seen it in person.

I run both the M7 splitter and rear wing. I do this for performance gains only as I would never have a 'bling-bling' wing.

The M7 splitter takes some creative setup as it dose little if you just bolt it on. Once again, I really like the guys at M7 very much and love the fact that they are continually creating new things for our Minis. I will always support that 100%. But ....

I have to say that the M7 splitter is a bit disappointing. It's not really carbon fiber as it's made of fiberglass with a CF venire on the top so it has a full ‘CF look’. This becomes an obvious design failure when you find that this splitter is way too flexible. I've been around many race cars and I can tell you that you can stand on their splitters. Try that with this M7 and not only will it snap, but it will take some of the Minis flimsy bumper cover with it. This is not a performance splitter, but it does give me some of what I'm after, as I said, with some creative thinking. Car is rock solid on the straights and in high speed corners. Some of this is certainly due to this splitter.

The rear wing is all CF and is well constructed. The mounting sucks though, and much is lost due to it's design and location. I use this ‘as is’ for the time being, but will re-design the mounting shortly so I can get more out of it and also fine tune it better then just choosing one of three holes.

We loose as Mini owners with aero parts. It would be nice if someone really tackled this empty hole with some well thought out product.

I would think one of the many porsche splitters could be modified for use on a MINI

This raises another question ... Does lowering the MINI an inch make it truely better handling on the track, assuming the stock SS springs are kept ?

Hello guys, I have the m7 splitter and to make it stiffer, I put some fiberglass on the backside of the bumper before I drilled and bolted the turnbuckles on. Doubt you could stand on it, but it's pretty solid and the bumper facia doesn't pull away from the front of the car anymore when and if you pushed down on the splitter.

Did this extra bit in fear of some Hater stomping my shiet.

Hope it helps

Ok... after getting out of work a little research I can't find any other vendors that have a front splitter (with pics) except for M7. I am not bashing it or anything BUT...

I did a quick search on a car with has a racing splitter and it looks about .25 to .5 inches thick and like I could stand on it... Does anyone else make a splitter like this one for the MCS?

the hamman lip is defenitely more aesthetics than performance... i surely love to have one, but very pricey, even replicas are more expensive than m7's

In terms of other people making splitters like M7, there is a fellow who makes one EXACTLY like the M7 but made of 100% carbon fiber which would be much stronger than a fiberglass one. He's out in australia, but the shipping isnt bad at all price wise.

Unfortunately he was banned for talking about his product on NAM.

For prices and pictures of all the things he offers check out
THIS PAGE . You should probably PM him on that board and see if you can arrange an order. Without the shipping included, the splitter is actuall 50 dollars less than the M7 without shipping. So its quite a deal

wow enzo makes some good cf parts. His front splitter looks much better than the m7 one, looks stiffer and less prone to cracking. cheap prices too. thanks for sharing the info with us Rally_MINI.

He's a great guy and would probably be more than willing to do that. It's not like CF weighs much in terms of shipping

Got the Hamann wing

RallyMini makes a great point- "the Hamann is purely bling." I have the Hamann splitter and rear diffuser on my car and it's cool. But, I never intended to put it on the car for performance/downforce. I thought it looked way cool, nobody else had it, and it fit the Euro-tuner look that I wanted.
As a side-note, the splitter has been a real pain in the backside. Not only was it pricey to purchase, but it took three months to get from Germany and it was rough, unfinished fiberglass. There was several hours of sanding, smoothing and building-up low spots that I had to work on and before sending it to the paint shop.
Then the Hamann mounting hardware was defective and the splitter flew off the car while I was driving on the freeway. After another month of repairing and repainting the piece, I had to get level 5, super-duper strong bolts to reattach the splitter to the front bumper.
Because of the splitter design- there's a one inch gap on the underside of the splitter and the trailing edge, I sprayed hardened foam into the gap. This way if I accidentally scrape the splitter leaving a driving, the gap doesn't compress and crack the fiberglass.
I'm touching up the paint every other month due to rocks on the road, small scrape marks, etc. Finally, one of the "wing" edges has developed a small hole in the fiberglass. One of these days, I'll have to take the splitter off patch the hole, repaint and reattach. But, <said in my best Fonzie voice> "it loooooks good!"
Save yourself the hassle and get the M7 splitter for less money and no headaches.
