Looks is one thing and if your worried about the cops is another thing. Some places have a law against the # of lights or the amount of light your car can create. I don't know what the law is in Canada.

As Astra mentioned, those are driving lights that you are referring to. But if you want to stay in your warranty requirements, you can only add two. Four supposedly decreases airflow into the engine compartment by enough to potential void warranty claims for just about anything under the bonnet.

BUT...you gotta love the look of four!!! I also like it when they are placed in the lower grill opening.

I have 4 that are mounted low and have had no issues with them, nor has the dealer said anything about them except for all the guys in the shop saying that they liked them. If you like to light up the night on a country road, these are great

I think you need 10: 2 oem, 4 on the grille, and 4 mounted above the windshield, like you'd see on a Jeep.

I'm only half-kidding.

MandaBOO, that's awesome. Love you car! Perhaps I am just too overly concerned about the threat of not receiving warranty work. From everything we read on these boards, you really do start to realize that dealerships approach aftermarket mods in very different ways. What is one dealership's deal breaker is another's compliment to its customers.

ive got fogs mounted just above the lower opening and i'm wating on a set of hella driving lights for the grill that i'm gonna use factory brackets to mount up. here are the fog lights ive got on there for now.....

i cant find those 100 Watt h3 bulbs anymore, i dont know what happened to them, they were all over the place last summer. (autozone and such)

right now, they are a bit higher than the fogs, but lower than the low beams and they extend out farther than the factory fogs do. also, white h3's look bad *** on ther car with those fogs.

Mini Madness makes the 4 lamp grille bar above.
Alta makes a 4 lamp bar that goes below the bumper.
Then you can custom build a bar of 4 lamps on the roof.

Then you can burn the paint off the Chevy Suburban in front of you.

Alta option

I've got the Alta rally style light bar, which mounts in the lower grille, but instead of the 4 that come with the kit, I only could fit 2 lights, because my state (New York) requires a front bumper-mounted license plate.

But I don't mind, because I like my vanity plate anyway, and the two lights kinda fit nicely in there. Alta was very accomodating about ordering just two lights. PM me if you have any questions!

What is really boooogus about the MINI Mania lights is the fact that they advertise them as being a combination light, combining both the function of the driving light and the fog light into one unit. If they work at all like a driving light the reflected glare under fog, rain or snow conditions would render them useless, make that less than useless

Spend your money on properly designed lights that will do what is required. Unless alll you want to do is throw out some light, blind yourself and the oncoming traffic

Do you have any larger pics of your lights vs squinting and getting a headache looking at your banner?

I do agree wif it...
I have asked the sales in mini...even the 2 foglights onw... they recommend me not to turn it on... cuz the cops will come to me...
so ...basically...no matter 2 or 4.... I can't turn them on...

Some of my friend even suggest me to use the cover all the time....

this make me think of another question... should I buy it wif the light bulbs... even though I am not going to use it...??????

I have not had any problems with the temperature of my car, and that's with a JCW through auto-x's and some very long drives with VERY spirited driving

Man, you guys are asking for it in regards to laser police traps. I would consider using VEIL on those lights, or at least a cover. A cover will not help when you are using the light. Have a look at these websites.

I know that you are not talking about Laser in this thread, but you are making the cop's job easier.

Alta bar

I know with the 2 IPF lights I have on my Alta bar, I've still got 100% of the needed air going through the radiator behind. Never had any hint of engine temps going up due to lack of air flow. There is a bigger question about the four large IPF lights with the "standard" Alta light bar kit--do they impede air flow. Alta, of course, says there's still full air flow through the radiators.

I recently read a thread, (can't find it now) on NAM, where Randy Webb stated that one of his MINI's he runs on the track (and beats the hell out of), has the Alta light bar with the 4 IPF lights, and he had absolutely no noticeable increase in engine temperatures. Now, if he's thrashing his MINI on a track for extended periods of time without incident, I would bet it'd be even more safe on the streets...

So I would recommend the Alta light bar, don't worry about airflow.

Having all four on at once in the city is another issue! I bought mine because my commute is country roads, where I see more deer than oncoming traffic. These lights help IMMENSELY.

YES! Unless you live somewhere that there are some dark country roads or you enjoy going to these areas, you will never turn the lights on. They are EXTREMELY bright, especially with all 4. Plus, if they are mounted low like mine, you would have to point them almost straight down to have them so they wouldn't blind someone. So, if you live in the city adn never leave the city, you may want to find another alternative for lights, unless you just like how they look and don't want to actually use them as lights

What it comes down to is what do you want your driving lights for? I see 3 possible responses.

1.) to acheive the "rally look", (but never really use them)...

2.) to safely illuminate dark country roads

or

3.) a combination of both 1 and 2...

I am in category 3: I like the "rally look" that the lights bring the MINI, but I also really do use the lights, (though much more in the winter time, when it's dark out on my ride home).

"With great power, comes great responsibility"--Ben Parker

You must not use lights this powerful when oncoming traffic is present! So, if most or all of your driving is in a city or suburban area, these would be a waste, unless you just want to acheive the "rally look" and not really use them, (putting you in category 1). So then it just comes down to how much you want to spend for that "rally look"?

Well said, jonnieoh. You have summed it up well. Too bad the people that need to understand that the most are the least likely to have understood it. .......... here come one of them now.

You guys (and girls) w/ the Alta mounts, I love the look of the mount but I wanted to use the Hella Black Lights. They are listed as 7" vice the 6" IPF's. Is there enough room for 4 7" lights? If not I figured I might be able to modify the bar and mount a 3rd in the center.

And yes I would fall into the first catogory mostly unless I'm heading up north to visit family.

You do have to admit that even if people are not actively using the lights they still look AWESOME on this car!

PS - Anyone know if you can use the Alta w/ the Oricari kit?
