Interior/Exterior Grille Badge Install

Grille Badge Install
Hi all!
At MOTD, I purchased one of those England grille badges that doesn't require the badge bar (bolts on through the slats in the grille). I have a couple of questions before I install:
1. Do I need to put anything on the back of the badge to keep it from damaging the grille?
2. Do I need to cut the bolts when I install it (the bolts seem AWFULLY close to my radiator with the bonnet closed).
