how does one get th trim off the door panels?

ok, i'm sure this has been asked several times, however i am unable to find any good info on this. i did try a search but nothing useful came up. and i know someone or a few of you have tried this before. so new good methods have to out there.
after a few years of owning my mcs, the driver side arm rest area (or y trim) has finally started fading in a way that i want to redo this. however after pulling off the door panel mini thought that it would be a good idea to use those melted plastic rivets. so my questions are:
1) how do you pull that oval trim off the door panel to gain access to the y0trim so it can be painted?

2) how do you go aobut reattching it after you have painted it? and i need to know the same for the speakers grills as well. as i have those pulled off and painted and am now trying to find a good method for reattaching. but mainl;y want to know how to get to those trim pieces that are attached to the panel itself?

again thanx for responding as it is greatly appreciated. and sorry if this is an old subject, and there is a thread about it i didn't find.
thanx again
ja

I believe the whole door panel has to be removed to get to the trim. Somewhere on here (sorry I can't find it) there was a disccussion about this. I saw it just the other day. I recall there is also some issue with painting it... the type of paint... or maybe it was the type of plasic trim... some types are hard to get the paint to sick. Sorry I don't know more.

first thanx for the reply. i do, however, understand i need to remove the door panel first. as i have done this already and noticed this melted platic thing mini did to hold the trim on. i just need to know how to remove the trim (if i need to cut those melted tabs then fine), but how to reattach it? as far as painting goes, i'm not worried aobut what paint and making it stick. i've done a few trim pieces in the car already and no problems. just need to get the speaker cover reattached and get the y-trim off and reattached.
thanx for any help guys.
later

I've not tried this myself, but I read a couple of years ago that people were just cutting those melted tabs and reattaching the trim piece w/ hot glue. It would be good to get more current info, though.

You must cut or melt those tabs, then plastic weld them back together.
