B&M shifter is next. Anyone in the south SF Bay area know of a reasonable place for the install??? AE Performance in Campbell quoted me $110/hr for a 1-2 hour job (I'm sure I'd end up paying for 2 hours).
How much is involved to install it?

I want to get the Whalen... but I thought it was something that could be self installed?

Oh wait - you were referring to the B&M shift kit. I got it!

Pulling off the stock **** takes 5-10 seconds (don't bang your head on the sunroof ). Putting on the Whalen takes 10-30 seconds. Took my wife's **** (haven't figured out how to post with a picture yet) in and out at the Dragon to show others. It is smaller than stock and the weight makes shifting a lot easier.

Yep! Had new "shoes" (ASA JS6 wheels, 215/45YR17 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2 tires) which worked great at MOTD - posted a couple "Smurfette" pics in my gallery.

I don't think I've ever read something bad about the Whalen.

I just got my Whalen shift **** and had it personalized to my MINI... I sent Doug a jpg of what I wanted and he made it. Put it on today and it feels incredible! But not only that, I was concerned because I have a Rogue S.T.S. and was not trilled with it originally when I had it installed but with the weight of the shift **** it is like driving a new car! Shifts are awesome and quick to do. I have an 03 and it always had a bit of clunkyness to it even after the Rogue, but now it is far better than I could have ever imagined. Plus it is personalized for me!!! I have it covered by a towel and heat is not an issue at all. I will have pictures shortly on my personal gallery - please check back! Bye for now!

Gotta pile in here-my favorite mod-you feel it every time you shift. Getting B&M kit this weekend to make it complete

I just replaced my Momo **** with a Whalen ****. Doug was a pleasure to deal with. I receceived the **** 48 hrs after ordering and installed it in less than 5 minutes. The Whalen **** is by far the best looking and finest made component in my interior. This is one modification that is cost effective - lot's of bang for buck. I drove the car to work today and am still smiling.....

Expensive ****

Before my 05 MCS I drove Miatas. The stock ***** were weighted and made shifting easier than many of the aftermarket ones, so the advantage of the Whalen's weight makes sense. But $130 for a shift ****? And doesn't it sit up taller than the stock ****, making the throw slightly longer?

The 3 best shift *****, regardless of price, are Whalen, Whalen and Whalen.

I've always been a fan of MOMO shift *****. I installed a MOMO Silver Combat **** in my MINI. I shaved down the collar on the shifter and then used a UniBit to enlarge the MOMO collar so that the **** slides all the way down on the shifter.

I've got one too and it's great! Feels smaller than stock and makes shifting a lot smoother.

Another vote for Whalen. I love the added weight of the ****. It is so heavy. I love that I can almost just launch the lever and let the extra weight of the **** just carry the lever into gear. The Whalen make gear selection buttery smooth. Nice

I just installed my Whalen **** today..

I opted for a simple polished one. Shifts are now very smooth.. maybe a bit too smooth.. Already have a B&M waiting to be installed.
