Bonnet Aero Grill Install

Hey I was just asking if anyone has ever installed the bonnet aero grill on their car. Did your aero grill tab have threads? Because the bonnet aero grills I have seem to only have these little slots that don't have any thread on them so I can't put a nut on it.

The top one is the stock grill tab and you can see that it has threads for a nut while the bottom is the aero grill that doesn't have threads. I guess I can glue it on but from reading reviews etc people seem to have screwed their aero grills onto the car.

You can buy these from a dealer, the bonnet grill cost $51.25 and the upper bu mper grill cost $37.25. I ordered these from Classic MINI on the phone with Jayson who was very helpful. Let them him that you are from NAM and he'll give you the discounted price of the two

If you guys want more info, use the search at the top right hand side of the page. There are tons of threads on this topic as well as installation tips and procedures. Good luck.

ummm...if you actually read any of the threads/guides at all you will see that most of them don't talk about the upper aero grill very much. None of the threads/guides talked about whether the aero grill tabs had thread on them so you can screw the nut on or not.

Now use that little feature on the top right corner and prove me wrong.

The posts on the Aero Bonnet Grille accept the nuts from the old grille. The nuts are self threading so they will cut threads into the X-shaped posts. However, they still don't seem as secure as the original solid posts. Just put avery small dab of epoxy on the top of each nut after tightening it down.

I've done both the bonnet and upper aero grilles and did a write up that you can find HERE. There are also some pictures. Note that the bonnet grille is a walk in the park compared to the upper grille!

ThanksI already have the uppergrill on and it wasn't too hard took about 30 minutes (most of which was removing the nuts). I'm waiting for the weekend to put on the other grill since I know it will take longer.

Since this was the most recent Aero Grille post I figured I'd share a tip that helped me while doing my conversion.

I used a heat gun on the lower grille, body colored panel, to help with pulling it off of the double sided tape. I tried to just pull it off first, and since I was reselling the parts, I wanted to make sure they wouldnt break. I heated the front, and rear of the piece on high 1/4 at a time for about 30sec. a side, and it pulled of considerably easier than just trying to pull of normally.
