I have been looking into purchasing the aluminum skid plate but unsure of which one to buy. I have seen on more than 1 site a black one ($120.00) and a satin one ($170.00). I'd have to pay $50.00 just for the satin color. Was wondering if anyone have any inside information on either? Thanks in advance.

2003 MCS, LY, black top, leatherette, all 3 pkgs, tinted windows to match the black top!

I purchased the cheaper steel one thats painted black for $120.00 + shipping. If you want more information I provided a link to the company that sells them. Also, I was notifed "after" I purchased mine that they were on sale for like $20 cheaper which isn't reflected in their ad. So if I were you I'd call them on the phone if you want to purchase on and tell them you saw it on sale in order to save the $20 bucks.

UPDATE! The cheaper price is reflected after all on the skid plate. Check the link below.

MossMINI sent me their "sales" e-mail, and I ordered the stainless skid plate yesterday. I hope to install next weekend

I was unsure of whether or not I was going to go skid plate....now I am. With the snow on the road I am incredibly worried about what it is doing to the undercarriage of my MINI...

2 Questions:

Does Mini have a skid plate available or are they only after market deals? I have heard of dealers installing these and our dealer suggested that they would not do so??

Can anyone confirm with absolute certainty that installing the skid plate will have NO impact on the warranty?

Thanks.
R

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.
MCS scheduled to leave GB in 3 days.

Does anyone else think a plastic skidplate would make more sense than the metal
one, at least for weight saving? It would still protect the underside from debris.

the first mod I'm planning is the moss skid plate. DiD did a slick tutorial on ithere. check it out and notice poor positioning of the power steering fan. I was also reading another user that had the plastic snap in cold weather.

Thanks dbwilldo

For all the large ice chunks we can get dropping off of semi trucks, I'm happy to have a *metal* skid plate. The MOSS design is easy to install and remove, so if weight is really at a premium, then you can remove it. That's exactly what I plan to do for autocross. Then afterward I can reinstall the plate and drive around with complete piece of mind.

Not to much ice on the roads in California and I don't ski. What I'm concerned about is protecting the PS fan. For me I think a plastic/PVC type skid plate would be enough protection.

8ball: which dealer is that?

about the skid plate: are there any other critical components underneath that could benefit from the protection of the Moss skidplate? The tranny is pretty sturdy, so I'm not worrying about snow chunks ripping the tranny to bits
I'm wondering if I can just retrofit a fan guard on the PS fan, and not have to have the large skidplate. I wonder how the aerodynamics are affected by the skidplate.

Does adding the Moss skid plate void any warranties or anything?

(or has this been discussed before?)
