Sqeaking coming from dash

Hey all,

My 05 MCS recently developed a squeak from somewhere on the dashboard and its been driving me nuts. It'd squeak whenever im driving, but not when im at a stop light, so obviously the road bumpiness is making it squeak. I finally found out what it was coming from, its the little ring that holds the rain sensor in place. I held it down while driving the squeak dissapeared. How do I fix the squeaking?!

Thanks in advance,
Avery

Welcome to the world of MINIs Does anyone's dashboard not make noises at some time or another I don't have rain sensing wipers so I can't make a suggestion. Perhaps a little glue or just turn up the stereo like I do.

Make your dealer fix it the next time you are in

Until then, you can probably eliminate the squeak by pushing a small piece of felt or similar material (folded business card, a toothpick, etc) in a crack in the dash where the squeaking is coming from.

cheap fix for some dash squeaks

Hi,
This is my dash-squeak story [Your dash may have a different disorder]

My -05 MCS has the evil dash squeak whenever the car is moving over less than perfect pavement. I discovered that in my case, pressure inwards on the dash just over the speedo reduced the squeaks from 'frequent' to 'seldom', and pressure down & in at the base of the windshield had an even better effect.

To make the fix I took a black neoprene mouse pad and lopped off a 6x2 inch piece, folded it over longways [gets you ~ 6x1x0.5], and wedged it between the dash and the windshield. It dissapears nearly completely on my car. To make the pressure symmetrical I did the same thing on the pass. side. Each 'shock absorber' is about eight inches from the middle of the dash. The peices can be easily removed with a toothpick and trimmed to ideal size if you like.

Results: from REALLY squeaky to about 90% squeak-free
Cost: $4.95 for the mousepad
Time: 20 minutes

FWIW I would have someone drive your car around an empty parking lot while you press and lean on the dash to find the area/direction of squeakage. This helped me out!

Good luck!

ROB
