Rear Boot Cover Problem

The rear boot cover on my MCS has begun to slip beneath the rear wiper hub so that instead of lying flush against it, it's actually slipping under it. This isn't a major problem, but it does mean that if one looks into the luggage area -- even with the rear seats upright -- one can see whatever I've got in there. The rear boot cover is supposed to form a visual barrier. Also, it does bind against the rear hatch when I shut it. I assume it was this binding which forced it under the wiper hub rather than sitting atop it as designed. Have any of you encountered this problem? Any solutions besides taking it to the dealer? Thanks

Not sure if this applies, but I've fixed the boot covers on 2 MINIs of friends. Each was pressed down where the wiper motor housing hit first as it was closing. Both were '03 models. If you look on the underside of the cover, you'll notice a large rib running side to side about 3" inches inside of the back edge. It is covered with the felt and is about 3/4"x 1/2" and should be straight for its entire length (side to side on the car). If this rib is bent, it will distort the entire cover and its fitment. Bend it back into shape carefully as I don't know how of if it might break, but it does bend. The rest of the cover appears to be heavy pressed felt over a stiffener material. Good luck.

Hope this helps

Most definitely. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

If you take it to a dealer as is, they will simply replace it for you, no questions asked. If you happen to bend it too much or break it, they will ask questions!

Much as I hate to visit Mini dealers, it's stuff like this which compels me to do so!

I bet if you call ahead and describe the situation, they will have a part ready for a "drop by anytime" install -- you won't have to spend the usual 6-8 weeks waiting for a service appointment.
