I was dissapointed to find that I can only switch on my rally lights when my high-beams are activated. Does anyone know how I can pull that switch off of the high-beam circuit, and make it independent?

You must have the dealer installed MINI lights, sorry. There's a lot more into wiring those lights than the PIAA's I have (which I can turn on whenever I please). PIAA's are just wired to the battery and fuse box directly. I don't know if I'd mess with how they wired the factory lights- risky business. Sorry I couldn't help.

I must say I don't like having lights wired direclty to the battery. Had them that way on a previous car and I was always leaving them one and draining the batt (I know.. idiot me). You may want to take the car to the dealer, or to a GOOD accessories install shop. You should be able to get them wired to the parking lights using a relay.

Yes you can get them wired so they can come on with either the low or high beams. That is how mine is setup...but I hate it. If you are running low beams you don't need the spot lights...if you did - you would be in an area you need high beams. I hope you don't plan on driving around with your low beams and rally lights on at the same time...would be very annoying for oncoming traffic.

The lights are VERY bright. I only get a chance to use mine when driving on I-75 South in rural southern GA. with no traffic on the road. They light up everything an will dazzle other drivers badly if you use them with other traffic around.

The lights have already paid for themselves... I avoided a huge dead deer in the right hand lane going about 80Mph. Without the lights I wouldn't have seen it and it wouldn't have been pretty. The dead deer still layed about 18" tall on its side.

Road Kills are not Mini friendly.

I've spoken to my saleswoman on this issue, she said that due to legal reasons the dealers are forbidden to wire them to anything but the brights. Besides, these things are REALLY bright anyways, you'd have to turn them off anytime a car came anyways.

It was never my intention to run around with the Rally lights on all the time, especially sinsce I live in downtown Chicago. I just like having independent control of the different lights. Not a big deal, just more of a curiousity.

OK..I'll also admit to the guilty fantasy of being able to slow down to let a daylight bright SUV pass, and then zapp him with the Rally lights!

I was told the same as SarcuxKSU by my dealer.

Like kesh420, driving lights will keep me from becoming a deer antler ornament. Once I get my Mini, I am getting the PIAA lights installed with the ability to turn them on and off regardless of whether the high beams are on.

Now if I could only get the on switch to look like the factory installed switches instead of a button in the driver's side leg well. Anyone know if this is possible?

I'm thinking of getting the PIAA lights. Can you tell me more about your setup? Model number, where you got them, did you install them, did you get the mini factory switch?

I believe that u should leave this to the dealer... altering with it urself or fitting an aftermarket product might break the warranty... when i got mine fitted i had the same question. When i asked the dealer he told me that they can fit an additional switch (there is some extra extra space on either side of the handbrake) for it to work individually... Personally i decided to leave it as it is simply due to the fact that i rarely drive on dark streets so the only way i'll be using them if with the high beam (plus to show off offcours!!)
