Interior/Exterior Custom Tach Phone Mount Bracket (with Wireless charging!)
Custom Tach Phone Mount Bracket (with Wireless charging!)
So I enjoy Cravenspeed products, but I also like to save coin for the bigger performance gains I'm after. After perusing CS's website for their tachometer phone mount for the R53 (OEM navi, so dual cluster gauge on the wheel), I realized how simple the product would be to make (albeit it isn't as pretty and machined as the CS mount).
I had a $25 wireless phone charging pad with motorized grip arms laying around from an old holiday gift my wife never used as the base for the phone mount. A quick trip to Home Depot (or any hardware store) and I grabbed a basic L joint door frame brace. Drilled the appropriate tach mount holes, measured angles and made the appropriate cuts, used 1" plastic spacers from the hardware section that I Dremel'ed down to fit, threw some hardware together, and viola. I ran the charging wire that powers the charger up through the center dash to minimize the view of it. Just something quick that I essentially saved about $80 on from the CS product (the charger was a freebie for me hah). It's staying mounted for a week while I determine if I like the angling or if anything needs adjusting. Then I'll be pulling it, sanding the spacers, sandblasting the bracket and smoothing rough edges out, and properly painting it.
Now I can explain to my wife how thrifty I was and how I needed the 17% pulley, DDM intake, and colder plugs that I just ordered.
