I would think that this would be a VERY rare mod unless you are building a flat out race car. As mudh as I would like a nice Sparco wheel, I'm not ready to give up all of the functions my stock wheel offers, most importaintly the air bag.

Would also be interested if anyone has made such a radical mod.

i dont like airbags to much. i was told that sparco just came out with a hub for the mini, and yea i would miss my stock steering wheel functions, there to cool but for a sparco wheel its worth it. i just dont like how cheap they look and how there skinny, if you have ever driven a e46 m3, they have a meaty steering wheel and have some grip to them. but if anyone has any pics and know which sparco wheel comes in suede that would be awesome.

It is quite common mod in Japan for the minis. There is a hub available in japan for the Mini with air bag warning canceler build in for about $270. I was thinking about doing it but other mods have to come first. I think Peter at M7 has Sparco on his though.

when I spec'd my 02( nov. of 01!) the first catalogue I had listed a wooden steering wheel as an option.I was psyched to get this ,but when i mentioned it to keith my MA, he looked at me like I had 3 heads, and I had to show him in the catalogue where it was.He asked the mgr. who told him it would never be available. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would definately have paid large for this .All that being said, I really like my mfsw with cruise, and haven't dwelled on the disappointment .

I've been on Momo USA about a wheel hub, but everytime I call, they keep saying it'll be available in about a month or two. Last time I called they said February. Rumor has it that older bmw hubs will work...not sure which one though...could be e30, e36, etc.

You mean like this?

I'd be the first to do this but I have too many HK buttons that I'd miss

MSFITOY, that is a fun website. Wish they would show the comp cars!

That wheel is heroin!
Geesh, we need a 'crisis line' thread here on NAM!

That MOMO steering wheel is sick, i love it, kinda takes the shape of the porsche steering wheel as in the Cayenne. Also, has anyone tried mounting an E46 M3 steering wheel? i think that would look amazing.

I talked to speedware motorsport today and went by there, the e36 m-coupe has the same hub, i put it on and it fit good, i didint get my steering wheel yet but it looks like i might have to put some spacers in between the hub and the steering column.

later

Well, there's only one way to find out!

I've been wanting to do this mod ever since I purchased the car and I got tired of waiting.

I used an e36 M3 hub...it required a shim and some dremeling but certainly worth it I'll fix the horn and airbag light later.

Very nice! Figure iut how to do horn, cruise, radio controls and I'll take one!

What I really notice is just how short your SS is!

After the MOMO hub is installed any of the MOMO wheels will work. Keep in mind we're not recommending this mod...we were just curious if it worked:smile:

thats is awesome looking, i fit the e36 hub and like you said it does need that shim behind it to put it even to tighen down the steering wheel bolt, the only thing that i am consern with is my cruise control, i barely use it, but on those long trips it really helps. i am thinking of doing the sparco flash 5 in suede, i dont know when i will be doing that but probably after the new year, thanks

chris

if anyone else has any pic that would be awesome.

The wheel does look sweet, but the form and function of it was what I was after. I'm also assuming whenever momo and sparco release their hubs, all the functions (cruise, radio) on the OE wheel will be lost...the only function that will probably be retained, if any, will be the horn.

I have heard of cruise control being added as an aftermarket install. For example, when I bought a 1991 Honda CRX (back in the day) I remember the Honda dealer themselves offering to install cruise control with some kind of extra switch -- it was a kit of somekind from some manufacturer. Just a thought. Perhaps these devices are available for any car. Don't know.
