Just got a email from rob at uuc motorwerks after I had been pestering him for quite some time to release some products for the mini, and he gave me some pics of thier finished mini shift ****. It appears to be a variation of thier RK3 **** for the bimmers. I had a Rob **** on my audi and loved it, heavy as all get up which makes for beautiful shifts. Can't wait till they release the short shift kit, and all the other mini goodies. Enjoy.

It's ok...but what really caught my eye were the pedals! Nice copy of the look on the S dead pedal. Funny, no mention of the pedals on their website. Anyone?

Maybe it's just me, but the stock shift **** is one of my favorite features of the car! This UUC one is nicer than you'll see on most cars, but the MINI's suits me just fine.

Rob told me that the site will be updated very soon. From the sounds of it, I think they have just a bit too much on their plate. I'm pretty sure the **** will be the first official uuc mini product with the exhaust, shift kit, and others to follow. Email rob if you are interested in the pedals, he's a really nice guy and is very accomodating.

Rob's Email:

rob@shortshifter.com

And for those of you who are thinking I work for uuc, i wish, then I would get free stuff. I'm just a very dedicated customer. These guys put thier heart and souls into thier products which explains why it is taking so long for them to release some mini goodies. Once you buy one of thier products you'll understand, kind of like valentine one owners. Sometimes you just have to own one to understand. Hope this helps

Related question: Does the glass top on the stock **** have a plastic covering? Mine feels like it does--like something to protect it during delivery. I haven't tried to remove it lest it end up with a frayed-edge mess.

Yeah, it's not earthshaking either way. TIA, Jeff

ps: I'll definitely, definitely replace the stock ****, though. I've had it fly off on an aggressive shift!

that looks good, though I'm not a big fan of HEAVY shift *****...they can cause extra wear...I read a good article on this I believe at Rogue Engineering.

Looks good though, only problem is I hate on the S how the leather boot doesn't goto the bottom of the ****...would look much better then.

Great pictures of the **** but just a quick question, does the stainless steel dead pedal come standard in the MCS?

I like the look but I'm not sure if I'm missing something here.

On my S the dead pedal in stainless was stock - though i've heard on the 2003 they might not be.

My 2003 MCS has a stainless steel "dead pedal", if that is the foot rest. Mine was built Oct. 25.

I find the standard one is nice but ice cold in winter months, since the metal used has quite a high heat absorption, it is really painful and annoying during the cold season.
I would like to find a convenient replacement for winter season, otherwise I'll have to knit something or use the putter mit after the golf season.

The "glass top" is actially all plastic. It's a flexible plastic, so what you are feeling is actually a really thick sticker, basically. Mine moves when I press on it, but My VWs had the same thing. Personally, I'd love a brushed aluminum ball shifter to the same dimentions of the original, with the shift pattern etched into the top.

The UUC Motorwerks **** above uses an adhesive decal as well. It makes sense; it allows them to use the same **** with different cars by just changing the shift pattern decal.

Installed my RK3 stainless Shift **** in Greta this afternoon and I am quite please with the quality. The **** is at least three times the weight of the standard **** therefore it feels better in hand. In my humble opinion, I think the extra wight help with the shifter throws.

Just my 2 cents... but I can't wait to replace brake handle with a matching UUC unit

I've never understood how resting your hand on the **** or using a heavier **** could cause damage to your car. Think about it for a second - everytime you drive you put your hand on the **** when you shift. If you do a lot of "spirited" driving, you're banging through the gears pretty well - at least I do. You are creating more stress on any related parts than resting your hand or using a heavier **** would cause! What the heck is a few ounces going to do! I don't buy that and I think it's a bunch of baloney.

Any thoughts on the matter?

I hear ya on this! Every morning when I go to the car, I HAVE to wear my gloves when I'm driving into work. That shifter **** gets sooooo cold. Like holding an ice-cycle. I cannot wait until the summer months, when I can through down the windows, and blast through the gears. By that time, I should have the required 1200 miles of "break-in" time, and finally be able to make my MINI growl. mmm...the thought is enticing.
