Quick background of myself. My name is Enzo and i'm 16 years old. Got my license in October of 2018 and had enough money saved up for a 2010 Cooper S (R56)
Now before you think I want to be another obnoxious new driver with a loud exhaust and poor driving habits, I don't want my car to sound too loud at all, just a little bit nicer.
I asked my Auto Shop teacher at school what I should do for that and he recommended I find a popular Mini Cooper forum online and ask so here I am. The only issue for me is the cost, my Auto teacher would install it with me for free but I have to pay for the part in its whole. I have a job but by the time I pay insurance and gas and car payment I usually only have some money left so I'd have to save for a while.
Never could figure out why BMW designed an exhaust system with two mufflers in sequence. +1 on the one-ball mod. Did it to my MC40 and it has a bit sportier sound without being loud at all (plus it's cheap to do). Enjoy!

OP has an R56, so the "one ball mod" will not apply here.
For R56, if you want just a little bit more noise, you can have the second cat and resonator removed and replaced with a straight pipe into the factory rear muffler. This is a popular mod with second generation Mini.
