Gauge Pod lights

Hello,
I'm trying to hook up gauges from BMP, all works good except
the gauge lights, Instructions suggest to tap the gray/red stripe wire for this.
this connection doesn't work.
My Cooper is an early build.
Does any one have any suggestions for what wire to tap to for the guage lights?
Thanks!

The grey/red wire is indeed the one that supplies the power for gauge illumination. If using a Scotchlock-style pinch-on tap on this wire, make sure that you are using one designed for the wire gage (thickness) of that particular wire. It's only about 22 gage, so some available wire taps might not cut all the way through the insulation and make contact with the wire inside. Also make sure the wire doesnt have any other color stripes on it; that would make it the wrong wire. There are many grey wires with multiple tracers.

Thanks GreatBear,

The one I tapped into, knocked the overhead clock out. I guess I have to look better at the wires and try again.
