Interior/Exterior Is it Totaled?
Is it Totaled?
2013 JCW, hit a deer at 70 mph. Didn't even have time to hit the brakes. Insurance compay says $10,000.00 in body work alone but have not got an estimate for any suspension or drive train damages. I do know that I could not get the transmission into the upper gears (5 or 6). What do you think? Totaled?
A good friend had similar damage to his R53; insurance company wanted to total it; he negotiated a resolution that allowed him to get the car fixed with a substantial contribution from him beyond what the carrier was willing to pay. No salvage title. Spent many months searching for a body shop willing to do the repair. I can get you the name if interested. The shop is somewhere in Northern Virginia.
It has been declared as totaled. This was my 2nd Mini JCW (2006 and 2013), both very enjoyable and good cars, no issues with either one. I will miss it but now on to something different.
Bummer. Sorry to hear that. Are you going to look for another MINI?

Doesn't look "that bad" unless there is hidden damage like Way is pointing out.. Granted with labor rates these days it doesn't take much for a car to be considered totaled. Had a local club member to have an "off track" moment and hit the tire wall. $10,000 in damage but the parts listed new from dealer was only $3000 of that total. He let them total it and bought it back and sold it for more then his buy back price after he got to scavenge parts off it.
It appeared that the engine was pushed back some and the trans didn't shift properly. In some ways I am glad it is totaled as I would not want to deal with improper repairs if that were to be the case. I am now moving on and I am looking at either an Audi S5 or S4.
My '11 R55S was rear ended into another car. It has 87k miles and $7k damage that they have found so far. Their insurance is fixing it. Body shop says it has 51% damage. It will likely be more because that has a non-OEM hood and HID. If I have my way, those won't happen.
I wish I knew the numbers they are going by. I have found several for around $12k online with same features and similar mileage. KBB, NADA, and Edmunds all show trade-in between $7.8k and $9k. Once this hits CarFax, it will be worth a lot less in trade or sale. I will be trying to get diminished value but figuring out what that number should be is puzzling to say the least.

We get lot's of drivers hitting deer out here. If you travel fast, and there are deer, eventually you're gonna hit one. At 70 mph, you're lucky the animal didn't do more damage. If larger bones go through windshield/windscreen, driver or passenger could be seriously injured or killed. That kind of thing happens here more frequently when cars are run into moose at high speeds.
Something to think about. Sorry your Mini got damaged, but good thing you walked away OK Garyt.
