Scoop Screens

I've heard of these mesh screens that go in the scoop to keep all the nasty stuff out of the intercooler, but I can't find 'em. Can someone hook me up with a link?

There is another thread about this https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=27968

And check this out: http://www.tech-esq.com/MINI/how_to_...oop_grille.htm

I painted mine bright red. Looks real nice against the BRG.
Or if you just want to buy one: http://www.cooperaccessories.com/cat...products_id=59

I think I purchased my scoop screen from CooperParts. I know you can buy the materials from Home Depot or Lowe's, but I liked that it was crimped just right for proper attachment.

There might be an easy way to get the crimped screen outline.

Take out your scoop backing which attaches by four screws from the bottom of the bonnet. It looks like a black piece of plastic.

Get a stiff but not thick cardboard or thick paper and cut it to a rectangle shape slightly larger than the scoop opening.

Place the cardboard or paper over the opening in the black plastic and screw in the scoop backing under the bonnet while smashing the paper in place as if it were the screen. After it is in place it will give you an idea of how the crimp will look on the screen. Next cut out the screen along the outline of the scoop opening on the black plastic scoop backing- there is an indention to hold the screen and leave a little portion of the screen on the lower edge extending about 1/2 on the sides to 1/8" near the lower center.

In the end the screen will look like an oval on the sides and top and a bit square on the bottom edge which is crimped.

Another thing you can do is get some aluminum screen mesh from a hardware store, etc. and cut a square piece to fit under the air diverter on top of the Intercooler. I have the alta air diverter and it works nicely in keeping bugs, etc. from getting into the intercooler. I found it easier than trying to fit a screen behind the scoop itself.
