Vinyl Wrap Chrome

Hello NAM, I just wanted some input/help with my 2004 MCS. Ive been attempting to remove all chrome from my car using either plasti dip or vinyl. I did the hood scoop, headlight trim, scuttles, and wheels in plasti dip. I am looking for a cleaner look than the plasti dip though. if you look closely you can see how the plasti dip is imperfect. I attempted using black vinyl for my door handles and white vinyl for the other chrome trims but its not as easy as people make it look. The gas cap in particular is very tricky as there is always some creases. Is there anyone in CT that is proficient with vinyl that could help me or any tips that i should know? Thanks in advance!

A true DIY MOD, but perfection comes with experience and practice... My personal mantra is ...If I can't get it done to my satisfaction before I run out of material or my attempts cost more than finding a pro to do it, start by having a pro do it, why pay for it twice?

I haven't been up in the New England area for a number of years, so I have no idea of the shops up there now. But I'm sure there are some great ones... anyone what to chime in?

Motor on!

The handles and gas cap (along with the mirror caps) are the hardest parts of the car to wrap. It can be done...You just need persistence, the right temperature, and time. Or, you could go the other way to avoid wrapping the hard parts and do this:

That makes sense, right?

Thanks for the input JABowders, your mantra is a smart one to live by, i thought for the $20 dollar vinyl it would be an easy one to try myself. But as Helix says those are the hardest parts of the car...lol, thats to bad since they are the only parts i really want to get wrapped haha. Thanks for your input guys and an entire chrome mini would look interesting Helix!

Yes, as stated above, vinyl is tricky and takes patience. Might help looking at some YouTube videos that may help. I did a quick search and a lot popped up here. Good luck!

Its takes time to wrap some items. You sometimes have to work with a heat gun or hair dryer to flex the wrap. Test a couple pieces and take your time.
