I got mine from best buy and also bought a 2-year service plan. They sell at the same price in the stores but I'm not sure what kinds of serviceplans apple has if you are looking into that.

Did Apple just released a cheaper, with greater storage capacity ipod? (No I am not talking about the mini ipod model).

Yeah, I am also looking into buying a new ipod as I already have the Aux input connection the dealer installed for me early March. I am also getting sick and tired of carrying CDs and switching them while sitting in traffic.

Apple gives me a $30 student discount on any new ipod purchased at an authorized Apple store or online ordering.

Was wondering if there is a better deal to be had and if there is one, I could easily hold off for a little while longer....

If your are an AOL user, check their Broadband Gear store, their Ipods are on sale b/c they are getting out of the market... (AOL getting out of the Broadband Gear market, not Apple getting out of Ipods! )

ipod mini is in such demand that it is never in stock at my local Apple store or at the University. They said check back each week (random colors) and call but the best way is to order online and wait about 2-3 weeks plus you get to choose the color of your choice.

For the ipod they are in stock at the Apple store except now there is a new model.

20 GB new model for $299
40 GB new model for $399
12 hours battery life

I say go to the Apple store if there is one near you. There is no such thing as a good deal on an Apple product, unless it's used. Some places sell them for 4$ less etc., but for my money going straight to the source is the best way with them. Also, steer clear of buying any type of extended warranty, it's just a money making gimmick.

I had a green iPod Mini on backorder. Then Apple came out with the new 20G iPod. It holds 4,000 more songs and the battery is supposed to last 12 hours. The Mini was $249 and the new 20G iPod is $299. But I got a $30 student discount. I ordered through Apple.com.

The best thing? I got it within 5 days of ordering. The Mini wasn't supposed to ship until mid-August. Plus the clean white color will look great in my Cooper!

Try here: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....3.1.1.0?61,77

If that doesn't work. Go to Apple.com, then to the Apple store, scroll down to find the Special Deals link on the left hand side of the page. They have "refurb" G3 10Gb units or $169! Plus anything over $50 gets free shipping!
Since they discontinued the 10G units, they cannot sell them in retail packaging. So they list them as refurbs, but you get a full year warranty. I bought one for me and one for my wife. It took about a week to get here and they were brand new in a brown box. All accessories were included. If 10Gb is all you need, it's a great deal!

Hope this helps!

I bought my original 5gig from CompUSA, along with their extended warranty.

When the 10gig model was released they lowered the price on the 5gig... I took mine back and exchanged it for the 10gig, and bought a new warranty.

It's a couple years later and I now have the 40gig unit.

Either CompUSA tired of people like me using their "no questions asked" warranty as a means of upgrading, or Apple forced them to quit... so the last time I took mine in for the upgrade they made me buy the Applecare extended warranty. No new units for me....

and mine is full.... I now have to manage my music very tightly in order to get what I want on my ipod.

There are several options for connecting your Ipod, obviously a cassette adapter should you have a cassette player is one...

But if you have a CD Player you can use an FM Modulator, easy to use, pretty cheap to buy, 30 second installation, but probably worst option sound quality wise, but no worse than any other FM broadcast...

MINI Aux Adapter, 30 minute DIY install, or have your dealer do it. The part is very reasonable, but installation may cost you. Pretty good sound quality since you're directly connecting the output of the Ipod Headphone jack to the radio. No control of the Ipod from your steering wheel controls.

Blitzsafe adapter. More expensive and complicated install, but you still can't control the Ipod from your steering wheel, Aux adapter may be a much better option.

Dennison ICE Link. More expensive and complicated install, but you CAN control your Ipod from your steering wheel controls. I believe your Ipod even charges while connected. Many that have this option swear by it.

MINI Ipod Adapter. Should work like the highly publicized recently released BMW adapter, no word on pricing or availability of this item... Expect these to be in great demand for MONTHs when they are released...

I have the Blitzsafe adapter, and it is awesome.... allows me to use any rca input (Ipod in this case) as well as an Alpine CD changer. Just ran a Monster Audio cable from the back to the front. Took about 10 minutes max to install - very simple....

Open the rear right side compartment in the boot and look down, there will be a bunch of wires and cables taped together. Take a knife and slice the tape so you can pull the cables out - they are for hooking up the BMW/MINI cd-changer. Plug that into your Blitzsafe adapter's output, and the Ipod output into the Blitzsafe input. I used double sided stick tape to mount the blitzsafe adapter against the inside body of the car and put the cover back. The lead to the Ipod routes easily under the rear seat and up along the center channel between the front seats. The only maintenance issue is being sure the cable doesn't get snagged by the seat's runners, not a big deal.

The official BMW/MINI Ipod adapter is nice but.... though you can control the Ipod with the steering wheel controls, it only plays from one playlist - not the entire Ipod, and I don't believe it displays song info.

The BMW/MINI aux input kit is super nice, especially in conjunction with the euro parcel shelf, but you lose the ability to use a cd-changer with it.

The Dennison icelink does appear to be the king of systems, but I've not used it. Having said that, I love my Blitzsafe adapter.... low-tech and easy to use.

Just rec'd my new 4G Click Wheel 20gb, eCost.com, free shipping.. a few bucks less than apple (and no tax) Doesn't look like they have any in stock anymore though.

As for ebay, I'm sure there are good deals out there, but I just SOLD my previous iPod.. a 2nd Gen 20gb for over $200..

I always thought those were independent of each other.

FWIW, I just ordered a new 20GB Ipod from Apple's Federal Employee store. Trying to figure out the best way to connect it to the MINI, already got the Aux input but the Sirius is connected to that. I'm also not sure I want to spend the money on the blitzsafe or Dennison, but only because we're seriously thinking of trading in for an '05 S next year... I think I need an Aux Jack Switch!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have the aux and MINI CD changer and can use both. They work independantly.

Actually you can set up 5 playlists to select from as well as random play all your songs on the iPod. I don't think any of the connectors out there display the song on the head unit. For my money this one is the best way to go.

You are reffering to the aux input, the post you replied to was talking about the BMW/iPod connector. This one does in fact take the place of the cd changer. It is also not available yet so you don't have this one. Why would you need a cd changer if you have an iPod to connect up?

Got my 40 gig from Amazon, and my wife's iPod Mini straight from Apple.

Both are great!
