Small box on roof in MINI???
I haven't been able to take a picture of it, but what is the small "box" on the roof behind the lights do? I don't know if it's differant but I have a MC, I can't figure it out, it's not a big deal, I was just wondering.... Thanks.
Check out this thread! The box contains pure evil.

Read that past thread-
Please do search when you can since many of these questions have been discussed before.
The past thread mentions-
"That is one of the sensor locations for the OEM alarm system."
So go open it and see. It's like cracker jacks in your ceiling.
Maybe someone from the factory left you a note in there.

Alarm Motion Sensor
It is part of the pre-wiring attached to the alarm system. It is a motion sensor which is supposed to activate the alarm if anything moves inside the cabin once activated. They even explain via a pamplet (had the factory alarm installed) that you should never leave the alarm fully activated (with motion sensor included) with the windows down as any object, or bird that might fly in would set it off. Of course I've never tried it, but they even give you instructions to turn the motion sensor off, while leaving the alarm activated by hitting the lock button again, which is indicated by the dome lights coming on momentarily. My BMW e39 540 has the exact same "pod" and activation/de-activation of the alarm/motion sensor.
Now, if I only knew what the little light in the center of the dash near the windshield is for... since the factory alarm puts the warning light at the end of the windshield wiper stalk, I can only assume it was the original warning light before they thought of the cool place to mount the current one.

P.S.: If you pop that sensor out and let it hang under the dash your AC will work REALLY well and you can get the MINI super cold inside. The sensor just keeps reading the heat under the dash so it tells the AC system to keep belting out more COLD air. I guy I know found this out by accident.
