New GPS mount

I tried mounting my GPS up in the top corner of the window but after the first couple of warm days it would be hanging by the cord... argh... so I needed a better place. I hate cords hanging down so the window mount was out... and I didnt wanna just stick it on the dash...but it needed to be easy to see... so this is what I came up with...

I just needed to make a bracket that would hold it... I popped off the dash trim piece which was really easy ( 3 posts that hold it in place) there was a screw that holds the center vent that worked perfect to hold the mount

For the bracket I used a piece of aluminum that I had- something a little thinner would have been easier to bend to follow the contours of the dash... but just made a cardboard one first, then got the cutting wheel and the grinder and smoothed it out... painted black and time to try it out

Since it just follows the shape of the dash the trim piece just snapped back in with no trimming or mods to make it fit...

For power I just routed the cord behind the tach and down under the dash and behind the lower kick panel over to the passenger side, I was going to hard wire it in with another outlet but just decided to put it into the original outlet behind the stick, it was switched, and the cord fit perfect, and was easy (plus I wired an additional outlet in front of the rear cup holder that has constant power...

Pretty simple mod only took a few hours and cost nothing

Nice idea. I'm sure you would have customers if you could find someone to manufacture a few for you...

Nice job. I went with a Craven mount to put my GPS in that same position. However, I ended up making my own mount for my sat radio that is on the other side of the tach.

Nice work Gerry. From the top picture I thought it was our mount since the final location looks the same. Very clean install and and innovative way to get it done. Cool stuff!
