Full Paint Job

All,

I was wondering if anyone on here has ever had to have their entire car repainted? If so, how much did it run you and did you keep the original color? Also, if you are from the Houston, TX area, where would you recommend going for good and affordable(not cheap) work?

full car repaint can cost anywhere from several hundred dollars to several thousand dollars and you'll get exactly what you pay for.

material alone can cost nearly $1000 for a best quality in certain metallic colors.

you DO NOT want to change the color. To do this right the entire car must be disassembled. Think about it, do you want the inside of the door jams, under the bonnet, under the seats to be a different (original) color. Either you will have a car that looks really funny or you'll pay WAY WAY WAY more to get this done. You could get away with changing the ROOF color.

Yes ask around for recommendations, but go get an estimate or two on your own as well. Look around the shop. Is it clean? What kind of cars are they working on? Is this an insurance issue? Have you asked your insurance if they have a recommendation.

A re-paint is VERY dependant on the prep work ... is there any body work that needs to be done? The actual painting is pretty easy. Your bigger cost is in the prep and the materials.

have you looked here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...g-society-227/

First, thank you for your response. There should be little to no body work, but the paint has some chips and imperfections on almost all panels. I assume that if you want minor things like this fixed you must repaint the whole panel.

To give you an idea, a few years back I went to a respected shop in Tucson and inquired about a paint mob on my '06 Miata. $5,000.00 and that was for original color, not a color change. It really depends on how nice you want the job to be.

what's "factory equivalent"

I've painted cars and I don't know that term . . .

btw ... MINI don't make paint ... they buy paint and spray it in their factory, before any parts are assembled . . .

By factory equivalent i was referring to the quality of paint work. I'm well aware that MINI does not make the paint any more than they make the tires. Paint t job quality varies and I just wanted something equivalent to the quality of work done at the factory.

Dont forget the options of vinyl-wrapping or plasti-dip. Niether will be as good as a full disassemble/respray, but if you are looking to change your color this maybe a good alternative as you can easily change it back. If vinyl, you could do some interesting finishes.

Clear Bra

Yeah

I was thinking I might need this or at minimum at least part. I have clear bra installed on the front over the stripes. Not sure how long I can leave Clear Bra on the car maybe 5 years? Car is mostly in garage at home or covered deck at work very little sun except while driving.

I shudder when and If I have it removed because it could pull the stripes off but still glad all is covered. Not sure what to do.

If the stripes come off could I have them removed and just paint and blend that portion and be stripe less?

Just thinking ahead as I normally keep a car for at least 100K. Bought new and only about 7K now.

Would never change the color as it is black and S Coupe.

The stripes come off without any need to repaint. A clay bar will take care of any minor differences in the paint finish. I've done this recently to a 2007 myself because I far prefer the stripeless look.

Have you considering wrapping the car? There are many great color choices and I'd imagine there are some quality installers in your area.

It's cheaper than paint and can be changed on a whim.

Thanks, I would do the same. Stripes was a 50/50 choice and all black next time. Glad they can come off without a whole new paint job.
