Black Exhaust Tips?

We just leased Mini S Hardtop for my wife (see thread in 1st Gear). I added black chrome tips to my 335 MSport and my wife loves the look. I searched MINI's website and this forum and I could not find OEM black stock tips. Does anyone know if we can purchase these? I a post on here that added black ceramic to his/her tips but the company is in Detroit.

Thanks in advance!

Check my one ball and tips mod in the R50/R53 driveline section

I had some big tips made and are painted with black heat proof ceramic paint (note its not the black chrome look)

Thanks CW! Looks nice but I am lazy. I just want to buy a set or have someone coat ours locally.

Personally I took the tips off did about 4 coats of black plastidip and it looks great. Hold up no problem with exhaust heat as well as the 120 degree Arizona sun.

Yep, you should be able to plastidip them and it should hold up.

Its really easy. Scrub them down real well after taking them off and then coat the outside etc for a couple coats and or good to go!

Did you just pour the plasti-dip over them? Or is there a spray version my Lowe's does not carry?

Got it, thanks! One visit to Bing and I found the spray. I'll execute that this weekend in between football games. I'm tired of trying to keep them clean.

There is ones form the BMW side. They look to be the slide on type. People on the BMW side have had them tack welded on.

I don't have the internal Id or inner dimensions. Some of the BMW boards have info on the cars.

18307559999 is from the E82 135

18307610639 is from the F30 2.8 L and F32 2.8 L

Gives you some ideas.

I have an F30 with black chrome tips, so I am familiar. Trying to find OEM black tips for my wife's mini s without having to powder coat and/or plastidip.

Those look terrific!

Would powder coating be the most durable way to go? is it a matte finish?

Years ago i had a Boxster and i could use a fine steel wool and silver polish to really shine the exhause tips. I had some success with my '09 JCW but the coating started to wear off.

I would either like to have a durable stainless finish or the black like yours.

Thanks,
Steve

If you want a gloss black finish use Rust-Oleum Engine Enamel. The exhaust tips have a little screw on the bottom. Loosen that and the tips will pop right off. I just painted them with 4-5 coats and they have a great gloss black finish that matches my car great. I think they actually look quite a bit better than matte black even on my car.

Was trying to dig around to find something else. There is no factory black chrome tips from MINI. I was trying to come up with a solution using the BMW parts. Hope that helps. Good luck on the find.

I appreciate it. Hopefully, mini comes out with something. If not, we will keep it chrome.
