Interior/Exterior First Plastidip project...Wow!
First Plastidip project...Wow!
I decided to just go ahead and try blacking out the grill on Watson, my 04 MCS, with Plastidip and all I can say is Wow! It was just as easy to work with as everyone says and it turned out exactly how I had hoped it would.
I guess you could say I got the bug when I realized how little I had used to do the grill because I decided to do the hood scoop as well, again total success!
I still had about half a can left at this point and decided to do the top of the rear bumber right by the hatch...it essentially creates a surface to rest things on as you are loading and now I wont scratch the paint up like the original owner did. I'm attaching pics for you guys to check out.
I love it and it was sooooo easy!

It's only been done since Saturday so i don't have enough time with it myself but everyone I know locally that has done it has had no issues with peeling. There's a guy at my local Cars & Coffee event here in Portland that has Plastidipped his entire Neon SRT-4 and it looks great months after it was completed. The plastidip is really quite tough when applied properly as it is fairly thick and is very rubbery so it doesn't seem to chip easily.
The best part of this is that the can of plastidip was under $6 at Home Depot. I paid a ton of attention to detail when taping off all areas and this project still only took me about 2 hours or so of actual work (I took more than couple of smoke breaks). If it chips or peels over time I will just peel it off and redo it.

Quick update, it's been on for a couple of weeks now and there is absolutely no visible difference. I am very happy with the results and would definitely recommend using Plasti-Dip for this type of mod as it is completely reversible.
I'm thinking the wheels might be getting a little love next...

When I had my stock grill I plasti-diped the upper & lower sections and it looked great.
If I happened to get a chip, I just sprayed some Plasti-dip on a small paper plate and touched up the chip with a Q-tip.
Worked just fine . . . . . . . .

I had my grille and headlight rings done in plastidip at a shop. But last week I decided it was something I could do myself so I did
- the MINI logo's on the front and rear
- COOPER S logo on the rear
- the side vents
- the beltline
The dip on my grille has been there for around 3 months now, still looks great. If there's any chrome showing through if a rock has hit, all I do it spray some dip on a metal plate, use a toothpick and cover up the area and use my finger to smoothen it out a bit so it doesn't look like a bump. Works every time. I did around 5 coats on the beltline, and keeping a can for the entire year just for touchup's. It Holds up better than expected.
