In New York state, it is legal to use them, as long as they're used with ONLY the high beams activated, (obviously).

I know they'd come in handy on back country roads, but are they street legal?
I saw one mini with a roof rack, and the hella lights mounted in front of the rack, doubt that's street legal, but it looked reallly good.
Put mine on last night. They are 5 inch KC Apollos with factory brackets all of which I got from outmotoring.
I really want to see what 5" lamps look like, could post a photo?
Oh, and as far as legal. That varies from state to state. And, Primarily in response to trucks carrying multiple driving lights on the roof. Some require them to be on with the high beams, some limit the number and there may be other restrictions
HELLA 500 , Brackets from Outmotoring.com . I had to modify the brackets a little but they are SUPER BRIGHT and I don't have to have the highbeams on to use them like the manufacturer lights.
How did you modify the brackets to fit. I'm having trouble fitting the bumper once the brackets are mounted.

I had to make some small cuts to the bumper itself ( hidden underneath so it can't be seen) and I drilled holes into the metal bumper guard of the car behind the bumper and mounted there. I didn't like the way they had it set up. I would of just welded if I had the equipment at home. I would take some photos for you to better explain but Ive since sold this MINI. sorry.
An older pic, but I still like mine.
Hella 500 fogs outer, Hella 500 driving lamps inner.
6 3/8" diameter
this is what im in the process of doing, its been so darn cold in the winter i havent been able to pull my bumper off to put this in, unfortunatly i wanted to run hella 500ff driving and fog, but i onyl have 4 500ff drivings. but mine will be in that same spot, im going to make my own light bar tho, i just need to mount them up, i have the bar itself actually made.
how is the VIP bar? just incase if i get frustrated and give up on my own creation
Mine's not the VIP bar, it was an older eBay purchase. Very stable, and in just the right position. Turns out they're incredibly easy to make using steel angle, tubing, and long bolts. If only I could WELD, I'd make a few and sell 'em!
For those putting these on, I noted this before but it's worth noting again: Use a trailer wire plug to connect the lights to the car. This way, you can unbolt the driving light "crossbar" and remove the lights if necessary, say, to bring the car to service level 1 (where you remove the front bumper cover, bumper, etc.). It's MUCH easier to wire in a plug than it is to cut/splice wires later. The trailer plug has a ground and (3) other wires, actually allowing you to wire the lights completely separately from each other, or to run driving lights, fog lights, and perhaps another accessory (a siren?) by using the common ground. DEFINITELY run a grounding wire, don't just ground to the bumper - this allows for off-vehicle circuit testing.
